Worst hostel ever!! Just don’t stay here. So many things wrong it’s actually a joke. First of all, they put me in their dumb lil space ship hostel which is a whole 2 blocks away! So just when you think you’ve arrived.. you really haven’t! In this new hostel building, Internet didn’t work.. there was no water to drink or toilet paper. I went out at night and returned back to the “hostel” only to find they wouldn’t open the door.. so I had to walk 2 blocks back to the original hostel and get them to ring the guy to answer the door. Then was followed out onto the street by the main receptionist guy screaming at me saying I was rude to complain about the multiple things wrong with the hostel. I am actually quite disgusted by his behaviour and will be making a serious report. To follow someone out onto the street, to shout at them is ridiculous. He should be ashamed. Not only ALL of that but the female receptionist supposedly booked the shuttle for me to go to El paredon. She even told me where to go for the pick up. I get there, and the driver wasn’t there. I rang the company and they said there was no reservation with my name. So they left me stranded on the street with all my stuff. Absolute WORST HOSTEL EVER. Don’t...
Read moreBed bugs in the dorm room. Experiences from others in the past sadly reconfirmed…. the wooden frame of the 20 bedroom dorm has bed bugs. Result: tons of itchy bites and sadly a less positive look back on our stay here.
Although the service wasn’t great, the atmosphere neither and the room itself lacked space and storage possibilities, we did like the location, price, free breakfast (although repetitive), and the big kitchen. However, they didn’t seem very bothered by the fact there were bed bugs. Although they actually should lock down that room, I’m sure they put someone back in our beds the same night.
We did get a private room for the remainder of the night and got moved to the other (way nicer) location around the corner (San Sebastian).
For the people that want to stay here: book a private room. And to the people of the hostel: Protect other travelers and solve this problem.
Update: reaction is a loosely edited copy paste because: I did not mention or mind any mosquitoes? + incorrect and defensive because we did provide immediate proof at 4AM to the sleeping person at the reception, the dorm has 20 beds, we weren’t asked if our linens should be changed (in fact we asked for that ourselves after...
Read moreA fine place to stay. We had a private room right next to the reception, this made it quite noisy and hard to sleep in the mornings. The room was hot and the fan helped a little, but was also very loud. When we also came into the room for the first time there were a lot of mosquitoes. We spent the first hour of arriving smacking the walls trying to get them all. The bathrooms were nice and hot shower water was such a plus! The location was a little on the outside of everything, however it was only a 7 minute walk to the main parts of the town so not bad at all. It being close to the road made for some noise from honking busses and cars. The breakfast pancakes were really good and we looked forward to breakfast every morning. I would suggest refilling the coffee since it had run out multiple days before we could get any. The kitchen was nice and the outside garden was lovely to spend time out. The employees were lovely and always willing to help with a smile. We booked the Acatenango hike though them and they let us keep our big back packs behind the counter over night and when we came back the next day they allowed us to shower use the facilities before our shuttle picked us up a few...
