Food: The food is really cold, they reheat food in the microwave and not on the stove. Food is messy, and drinks arrive late, after food has already been ate. Food also had no taste. The Avacodo had baking soda in it, meaning when a Avacodo goes bad, people put baking soda on/in it to give it a better taste but it was awful. Food was also very dry and it either smelled bad or rotten.
Drinks: Drinks were also horrible, they were either too sweet or had no taste what so ever. Really disappointing.
Service: The service is awful, they wanted to trick us into thinking the food was warm and they wanted to make us think that the food is heated up on a stove but it's actually heated up in the microwave over and over again.
Atmosphere: My family and I were sat at the 2nd level and it was very quiet, no one else, no tv, and it felt like it was an abandoned house and the floors were dirty and had trash on the floor, the other tables around us were also dirty and full of trash but had no one sitting around them.
Other comments: Would 100% not recommend eating or visiting here. Environment is dirty and bathrooms are nasty and very dirty, paper on the ground everywhere including outside not just the bathroom. Service, Atmosphere, Food, ALL horrible, DON'T eat here. If I could give this place 0 stars, definitely would do. Kitchen smelled horrible, my family and I almost threw up. Too many flies and little animals/insects on the food, floor, kitchen and basically every where else. Definitely wouldn't recommend ANY dishes. Outside and inside the place were also very dirty. Customers would see animals such as flies or ants on the food and they would try to kill them or make them fly away but servers wouldn't care, they saw a fly in your food and they would just hide it or just serve it to...
Read moreUnfortunately we left this place extremely disgruntled due to being overcharged at the end. When we came in and asked about pricing (they don't have it written anywhere) the cashier told us that one plate of food with one meat and two sides was Q40 ($5) which made sense because we paid a similar amount at another well recommended joint the day before. We got three (3) plates of food, two (2) local beers, and an additional plate (2 tablespoons) of just extra rice and ended up paying for all these items Q416 or $52. They charged us Q89 ($12) per plate, Q30 ($4) per a bottle of local beer and Q40 ($5) for the plate of rice plus service charge. When I went back to the cashier to clarify he acted dumb and said he never said Q40 per plate, while all three of us heard him clearly prior to choosing our food. I generally don't mind paying more for good quality food when I know what to expect upfront, but I don't appreciate being manipulated into paying more by force and lie. The food tasted good, but I would not recommend going to a place that slaps any price it feels like on the receipt based on your look or language. A pure...
Read moreOne of the most important things for us on a vacation is to really feel the culture of the place we're visiting. We believe that one of the best ways to quickly get there is through FOOD, and ideally through the most authentic representation of local cuisine.
La Cuevita de Los Uquizu delivers on that desired experience in a big way. We sampled "tipico" fare all over Antigua and other parts of Guatemala and none delivered the choice and flavor of La Cuevita. From the presentation of the days' soups, to the delicious choices of accompaniment, to the ability to add elements to your meal (try the pupusas!) - the entire menu was an incredible way to sample the delicious tipico menu.
SO good, so fresh, so flavorful. I cannot recommend this amazing restaurant highly enough. If you're in Antigua and want a full belly and a sense of appreciation of local culture and cuisine - this is a MUST EAT...
