TLDR: No Hot Water, Broken Toilet, and Little Recourse
We stayed at Lolita for two nights in March 2025. At first, the place seemed nice.
The first night, we came back late and tried to take a shower—no hot water. We figured maybe it was a fluke, but then noticed the sink barely had any water flow, and the toilet wouldn’t flush properly, constantly running instead.
The next day, we returned and tried to shower again—still only cold water. The sink was still barely working, and the toilet was sometimes malfunctioning. That night, at 4 a.m., we were woken up by the host knocking on our door, carrying a gallon of water to manually flush the toilet.
When we checked out, I politely asked for a partial refund due to the lack of advertised hot water and the dysfunctional plumbing. The host refused, claiming the shower had been repaired the day before —then turned it on in the middle of the day, and warm water suddenly appeared. She offered only 50 quetzales discount and was somewhat hostile throughout the interaction. Giving 2 stars for at least the slight discount.
This has been my only bad experience in Guatemala, and it was made worse by the dismissive attitude of the host. If you value hot water, working toilets, and a decent night’s sleep, best to...
Read moreGood location. Hammocks and patio are nice. The Owner's daughter was very helpful, smart and pleasant. ||The view from the rooftop is great if you try not to see the mess in the neighborhood. This is not a terrace yet, but it's gonna be nice when finished. Works haven't been completed yet, I suppose. No balustrade or fence. No chairs upstairs unless somebody left one.||The whole structure seems to be constantly under construction (I mean the works stopped or the progress is slow). ||My room was clean, but the walls didn't seem fresh. Bad smell at night may occur when the weather changes. The opening in the bathroom/room wall might be the reason. ||No credit cards accepted.||I had the impression that the Owner asks for money too frequently and treats me as a potential fraud. She is nice and for the first time I thought it was a joke, but it was repeated. I understand it, but... ||Some issues with water in the building may also occur. ||I'd refrain from touching anything in...
Read moreI stayed at Hospedaje Lolita in San Pedro for one night and overall, it was a good budget-friendly option. The place is small, with only eight rooms, each having two double beds. If you’re lucky and don’t get a roommate, it feels like having a private room. The rooms were clean, and the beds were comfortable for the price.
The owners were very kind and responsive through the booking app, which made check-in and communication easy. The hostel has a small sink, one shower, and a toilet on each floor. The sink doesn’t have hot water, and I’m not sure about the showers since I didn’t use them. The kitchen downstairs is basic, and they charge a few quetzals for water refills, which wasn’t a big deal.
The biggest downside was the noise. You can hear everything from your room, including loud neighborhood music in the evening and a dog barking all night. If you’re a light sleeper, this might not be the best option. However, for a short stay, it’s worth it...
