This hotel worked really well for our purposes which was to stay a night at a cheap hotel near Sublime. I would not stay here long term, but a couple of nights is convenient. I had no problems with staff or guests; in fact, they were all friendly and helpful. We were allowed to check in at 11 am. We didn’t have problems with bugs (although this could have to do with the time of year) and our windows were open all night. There is a beautiful courtyard with swings, clothesline’s and a community kitchen.
The only complaint I have is that there was no soap or towels to be found in the room. We did not ask staff to see if we could get some because we were only staying one night.
In regard to the previous reviews: Perhaps you stayed longer or dealt with different staff than we did. Perhaps you were here during a different time of the year. But this is a cheap place to stay, so you have to lower your expectations. Also, you cannot blame the hotel for bugs and a scorpion in your bed. Bugs, scorpions and spiders are a part of Guatemala. I mean, if you are staying anywhere in Lake Atitlan you are in a jungle! We found a few scorpions in a very expensive private villa off Lake Atitlan that we were staying at. As I mentioned earlier, the staff were very nice. Probably because we were very nice first and spoke Spanish. This place really isn’t that bad for how cheap it is....
Read moreI would not recommend this place to someone unless they really need a cheap place to stay, as I paid 30Q a night. BUT I’m pretty sure you can stay at the San Francisco Hotel for 30Q, so don’t come here...
I had many issues with this place:
Don't expect much, no encounter with bugs or insects but the room is very basic. My bed felt like I was sleeping on a box spring, some younger guest came into the hostel around 1 in the morning and was super loud (no exaggeration). I mean talking loud music loud laughing and carrying on like they was at a after party while guest are trying to sleep. Very inconsiderate, I won't be back and I'm sure if your on a budget you could find better. All bunk bed dormitories I've stayed in were better...
