I had the privilege of eating at Moe's Food Truck: an incredibly non-descript and non-ceremoniously named bastion of deliciousness, humor, and local staple for late night after-drinking munchies about a month ago. I promised I'd write this review (sorry, Moe! I didn't forget!) and boy am I happy to do so. We had been drinking around the corner at the R5 Microbar (delicious craft beers -- mostly local and totally worth the stop!) and realized that most places in Akureyri closes rather early despite the Midnight Sun tricking us into thinking it was still 6PM back in the states, it was in fact 11PM at this point. The hours listed on Google Maps for this place is kind of a suggestion: as the sole proprietor and operator of this place, he is open until whenever he feels like as the crowds wax and wane after late night events. Moe is friendly, accommodating, and full of gallows (and regular) humor -- exactly the kind I like. On the menu was "Fish and Chips" and then "Fish and Chips Chips". To which I had to clarify... "What are chips chips?" -- "depends, where are you from, America?" "Yes." "Then they are potato crisps." Our party ordered some "dirty fries" and the "fish and chips". 10-ish minutes pass, while he served other local guests -- most of whom seem to have built a personal rapport with this local staple. "HEY! I see you there with someone else's food!" Moe shouts to a young girl out with her friends, "No, I would never betray you!" she shouts back as she trots over to order something. Within 10 minutes, out comes out the steaming and fresh plates of tasty food for us. Breading on the fish was a little denser than your average, but the inside is moist and full of flavor. There were chips, and chips chips on it because Moe was generous. I told him he should probably have "Fish and Chips Chips Chips" on the menu as well. When asked if he enjoyed the work that he's doing, he replied with a big smile: "Nope, I hate it. It's so much work". Anyway long story short: if you find yourself in the beautiful city of Akureyri, be sure to stop by at Moe's for tasty food, good conversation and a warm welcome. Thank you Moe!!! We miss...
Read moreVery nice gentleman. We tried three types of hamburgers. One gluten-free. And the only thing he could say was "yummy". Incredibly good and filling. My mom, who doesn't like hamburgers, felt like eating two more 😂. As a gluten-free person, I was so excited and took home gluten-free fish and chips. What can I tell you, bomb number 2. I am very happy that I finally found them open. I always managed to come when the doors were locked or it was already closed. I hope we still have time to try all the hamburgers. For me, as a gluten-free person, it's very cool to have such a food option in Iceland. I was very excited about the approach of Mr. to us, about the food and actually about everything. I definitely recommend it, I will definitely come back here whenever I have the chance and I have a trip...
Read moreA must-stop place! Moe was hilarious and super conversational. His truck just sits in the middle of this commons area with a little paper sign so we weren’t sure if it was the right place at first. However, once we got there and started talking to Moe we were laughing the entire time. I asked about gluten free and turns out most of his food is gluten free and he fries the fish separately so I wasn’t concerned about cross contamination. Someone on find me gluten free had mentioned that either he or his wife has a wheat allergy or is celiac so he knows his stuff. The fish and chips were SO GOOD. 10/10 for food, and 10/10 for...
