Avoid Hotel Nordurland at All Costs! I had an incredibly frustrating experience at Hotel Nordurland, and I want to share it as a warning for others. Here’s what happened: While I was taking a shower, I noticed the water wasn’t draining and started to rise. I felt something was wrong but thought I could quickly finish and inform the reception afterward, assuming it wasn’t a big issue. However, when I stepped out of the bathroom, I realized the water had flowed out of the shower area, through the sink area, and into the room! The bathroom design was terrible—there was only one drain inside the shower, and none near the toilet or sink. I quickly dressed and went to find the reception. On my way, I bumped into a staff member in the hallway who asked what I was doing, saying there was severe water leakage downstairs. I explained the situation honestly and requested a room change. I thought the matter was resolved, but later that evening, when I went to borrow a hairdryer, I was lectured by the staff. They said things like, "Why didn’t you report this sooner?" and "You think this is funny? I don’t think so," in a rude and condescending tone. Although I tried to explain that I didn’t realize the severity of the situation at first, I just kept quiet and let them speak since I felt it wasn’t worth arguing over. The worst part came the next day when I was checking out. The reception informed me that, according to their hotel policy, I had to pay a maximum fee of 150,000 ISK to cover the repair costs. I was completely shocked. The hotel’s outdated and poorly designed drainage system was clearly at fault—why should I be held 100% responsible? There were no blockages in the drain, such as hair or debris, so it was obviously an issue with their maintenance. Yet, they insisted I pay in full and refused to take any responsibility. We were on a guided tour arranged by Troll Expeditions, and the hotel was chosen by them, not me. The guide kept pressuring me to pay, saying, "You should sign it," which made the situation even worse. With no time to dispute, being part of a 10-person group, and worrying about potential visa issues or further trouble, I reluctantly paid the amount. It felt like outright extortion. Now, I can only hope my travel insurance (Coverwise) can cover this expense. However, I’ve read that it might not be applicable for Chinese citizens, so I’m feeling quite uneasy. This whole ordeal has been incredibly frustrating and feels like paying to avoid further disaster. I just hope the rest of my 2025 will go smoothly. If you’re planning to visit Iceland, I highly recommend avoiding Hotel Nordurland at all costs. It’s an absolute nightmare!

The hotel is very clean. The staff helpful (two separate people asked if I would like help bringing my bag to my room). My room was a single. It was an ok size, and the bed was comfortable. I'm was warm enough in the room and you could adjust the heat to your liking. The Wi-Fi worked fine but the TV only had a few channels and only two of those weren't constantly pixelating and losing dialogue. It was not a smart TV. I ended up watching videos on my phone, the Wi-Fi was strong and I had no difficulty doing that. The breakfast buffet was ok, learned more towards traditional Icelandic with added selections of pickled fish and things. I was excited to see their large selection of yogurt toppings, but then only had a carton of plain yogurt on offer. No other flavors and no skyr. The hotel itself was very quiet, I could not hear my neighbors or people walking on the hall. The window on the room was quite large but had great black out curtains as well.

The room is old and very small. We stayed in a twin room and the position of the beds is weird (L shape). There’s no cabinet and the rack for the coats are just beside the bed. There’s not enough space for big luggages. The carpet in the room doesn’t look really clean. The tiles and ceiling in the bathroom looked old. There’s not enough lights. One of the sockets beside the bed is not working. It takes a while before the heater works. The kettle in our room is also old and a bit rusty so we didn’t use it. The CR is big but the scent they have doesn’t smell refreshing. There’s a balcony where you can see the Aurora but the street lights are too bright so you can’t really see it. The hotel is in downtown so it’s just a quick to various restaurants and grocery store.

Oh my god! I have never stayed in such a disgustingly rancid place in my entire life! This place is an absolute abomination. My fiance and I booked a room to stay there for a few nights and when we were presented to our rooms immediately I thought that this was a bad idea. There was some sort of rotten repugnant smell protruding from the room as if they had hosted a fishers market inside and also not to mention there was literal blood on the sheets of the bed and the pillow cases clearly neither had been washed properly or at all for that matter and there's more! We went into the bathroom and the toilet didn't even have a seat, it was completely missing as if some thief had come in and stole it! What is this place! We paid a lot of money to stay at this hotel and better yet as you would assume upon seeing this disaster we immediately went down to the receptionist in the lobby and made him aware of our complaints and that we wanted our room to be changed because this was completely unacceptable and do you know what he said? He said "Sorry Sir that isn't going to be possible" and when I asked him why his response was simply "It's against our policy" so then I asked him for refund and again he refused, I nearly slapped him in the face right then and there. I asked to speak to his manager and he said that she wasn't even there! I mean can you believe it? I have never seen such poor service and lack of detail nor such blatant disregard for clientele then I have here, it's a real shame. Me and my fiance were really looking forward to staying there but after that I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone it's despicable and afterwards we had to find a new hotel to book a room for the night with all of our luggage whilst it was snowing and raining. Absolutely remarkable in the worst...

真是差到极致!||I had an incredibly frustrating experience at Hotel Nordurland, and I want to share it as a warning for others.
