Be cautious of this hotel. The staff was very uncooperative and unfriendly. We arrived early (around 3:30) and were told there was absolutely no check in until 4:00. We accepted that because that was the posted check-in time. They suggested we wait in a small area RIGHT IN FRONT of the check-in desk until exactly 4:00. At 3:45 three separate people came in and asked if they could check-in. They were immediately checked into their rooms while we sat there and watched. Never did the staff indicate that we had arrived first and were waiting.||When we did check-in, they pulled a bait and switch on us and assigned us a room in an annex next door to the actual hotel that was nothing more than a closet. We booked what we expected was a nice room that was pictured on their website. Instead, we got a room that was hardly big enough for the bed (literally had to crawl into the bed because it had walls on three sides) and a small bathroom with no amenities. No hairdryer, one towel each, no extras at all. When we inquired about the room, they said they had been having trouble, and this was our only option because all of the other rooms had been assigned to guests arriving later. But we were already there and one of the first to arrive.||Do not believe what you see on...
Read moreExtremely aggressive manager who managed to make me cry.
We were told yesterday that breakfast starts at 10 and ends at 12. We woke up early and waiting for 10 and then went to have breakfast.
The staff explains us there is a misunderstanding because breakfast ends at 10. She still lets us in since the food is still there. We go in, then the manager shows up and starts screaming at us. She calls us liars, she says that we were never told that breakfast starts at 10 etc. When we try to answer back she yells at us and repeatedly says “No no no”.
She then leaves to talk to yesterday’s receptionist. The receptionist comes to us and we talk. She is visibly emotional too, I suppose because of the manager (who disappeared like a coward).
We explain ourselves and say we don’t care about the misunderstanding nor whose fault it is, but that we are in such a state (I was crying) because the manager harassed us.
To Centrum Hotel’s manager who harassed us: we did not pay hundreds of euros to be shouted at. Your staff is great but you’re the one who ruined it. So getting mad at them is also dishonest of you. I hope you read this review because you made your customer cry, disappeared and didn’t come to talk...
Read moreMy journal reads “Damned if I know why I chose this place – could have been because costs were accumulating”. Beyond price, one pleasant quirk is you can sit in the pentagonal alcove and look out on the city ‘square’, actually a circle with a wee park in the centre and watch folks milling about. This city ‘square’ is the meeting place of several streets, so you are conveniently close to everything including the cathedral that you don’t want to miss. Parking is free – courtesy of a nearby bank, but 600 m away, so ill-fitted to large suitcases. The communal bathroom is cozy, but ill-suited to taller folk; the knees of anyone over 6’ are less than 6” from the door. The upside is that it is clean and everything is within reach, though the toilet paper may be directly behind you. Broadly, the Torg is modern, tidy and clean. It doesn’t have the perks of more expensive hotels, but is very conveniently located. Almost everything you wanted to see in Akureryi is close at hand. Travel in Iceland can quickly become expensive, the Torg allows you to reduce the outflow with no significant hardship still be located close to Akureryi...
