“If you leave something behind , you must come back.” - told by the lady in this hotel… I left a piece of my heart in Akureyri, but most importantly in this hostel! I had my first encounter of getting to know some Icelandic hospitality! (The first places I’ve stayed people were from different countries or they had this “couldn’t be bothered attitude” but in Hafnarstæti, I had pleasant conversation with the staff there . It is Family owned by a dear couple, the lady and her husband were really amazing host, I felt like they were those cool Icelandic grandparents. They made you feel welcomed and told me a few things about Iceland and it’s people. She also gave me recommendations on different places to go! The place itself was very clean, in hostel everyone has to clean up dishes after themselves but they make sure that everything that guests cleans, gets ran through the dishwasher as well which a very high standard for a hostel. The rooms were very cozy and the beds were amazingly comfortable, mattress felt like memory foam, one cool thing about the pods is that electricity runs low (12 watts) so you get a really good sleep without too much currents, the temperature and complete darkness while pod is closed factors in it. We were told that Icelanders that have trouble sleeping are sent to these pods by sleep specialists to improve their sleeping. From my own experience, after driving around Iceland for four days , we felt well rested on our night here that decided to book one more night. Each pod as a tv and some headphones so you can be at peace with no outside disturbances. Totally felt like I was in Star Wars in there , even with the rumba passing by 😅. There’s is plenty of bathrooms which were all very clean! There is also many lockers available, as well as coat hangers. Make sure to watch the video in the reception that helps you how use the pod properly !

1star is too much!!!! I am absolutely appalled by the way I was treated by thi Hostel. My stay was disgusting, and their response to my legitimate complaint was nothing short of gaslighting. ||||Upon checking into my room, I found dark hairs in my bed – an obvious sign of poor hygiene. I have bleach blonde hair, so it was impossible that the hair was mine. I took photos of this disgusting scene and immediately contacted the hostel, expecting them to resolve the situation and issue a refund.||Instead, they have refused to acknowledge their fault, claiming there was no hair, despite the photographic proof I provided. Their blatant disregard for cleanliness and complete failure to take responsibility is shocking and unprofessional.||||What’s even worse is that a staff member opened by pod without knocking, using a key card, completely violating my privacy. This is not just unprofessional but unacceptable behavior for any accommodation.||||Rather than handling my complaint properly, they have chosen to gaslight me, refuse my refund, and ignore the very clear evidence. As someone who works in tourism, I know how guests should be treated, and this hostel fails in every possible way.||||I will be attaching the photos I took to this review so everyone can see the evidence of the disgusting conditions I experienced. Stay far away from this hostel if you value cleanliness, professionalism, and your personal privacy. There are far better options than wasting...
