R5 Micro Bar — Restaurant in Akureyrarbær

Foreigners are not welcome!! As always, before entering any place my wife and I put on our face masks and we walked in the door. We sat at the barstools that where open and waited for the bartender. At this point the bartender informed me that my face mask was insufficient. Being a little shocked by this she offered a medical mask. My face mask is thick, approved by the CDC, FAA, WHO and follows all guidelines from Iceland’s minister of health. Then we are informed the bar stools are closed. (The bar stools where not marked as closed and where in the usual bar stool position making no effort to inform customers they are closed) At this point we sign in, order a beer and are asked to sit at table 4. We are not offered any menu. About 2 min later the bartender REMOVES her mask and continues to work. Even greeting a new (Icelandic) customer without a mask on! We promptly left and will not return. We are very understanding that covid rules are needed but they are they strict here with foreigners and no one else...

Came here just before 8pm on a Thursday. Luckily made it for happy hours. We had heard good things about this place and about how the music is really good. Sadly the vibe was extremely mellow. My JBL flip 5 plays louder music than the whole bar. Maybe I was early but it was a real let down. The bartender was more interested in her phone and refused to serve me a large G&T. While unassuming from the outside, it's actually a very cosy craft beer bar. They have a decent selection of beers on tap, allowing you to sample some rarer local brews. We thought we would prefer the Einstök brew pub, but we were actually so disappointed in there that we left after one pint. Instead, R5 Micro Bar really charmed us and, before we knew it, we found ourselves spending the full evening in the comfort of this place, sipping on delicious pints!
