The food was fine, but certainly not good enough to mitigate the absolutely awful service we received. We came to put our names down for a wait and were told 10 minutes, ended up waiting almost an hour just to be seated at a table that had not even been cleaned off. As we were waiting to be seated. we saw them seat at least 3 other tables who had not been waiting at all. We immediately ordered (obviously we’d had plenty of time to peruse the menu) and waited ANOTHER hour for our entree dishes and appetizer to be served as we watched 3-4 tables who had been seated long after us receive their meals. We did not even get water to drink until about 30 minutes after being seated. When the food was finally brought out, they had completely forgotten the appetizer (which wasn’t served prior), and were brought only one tiny rice serving for four adults. Not only that, they did not even bring us flatware until we asked multiple times. We finished our meal within 10 minutes after waiting 2 hours. Have absolutely had better Indian food elsewhere, and it certainly wasn’t anywhere that I had to wait 2...
Read moreWe visited Indian Curry House during our trip around Iceland, especially making the effort to come here for some much-needed desi food — especially after a week of eating veg burgers and fish & chips everywhere. The place looked cozy and welcoming, and we were excited for a proper South Asian meal.
Unfortunately, we were disappointed to find out that they don’t serve halal meat, which was a letdown for us as Muslim travelers. Since we were already there, we decided to go ahead and order what we could. We had daal chawal, fish curry, and samosas, and ended the meal with a cup of chai. The food was decent and gave us a small taste of home, and the tea and samosas were particularly nice.
To our surprise (and a bit of frustration), after finishing our meal we noticed that just a few shops back there’s a place called Turninn Kebab, which does offer halal food. Sadly, we discovered it too late.
Overall, Indian Curry House is a decent spot for desi comfort food if you’re okay with vegetarian or seafood options, but for halal meat, make sure to check out Turninn Kebab...
Read morePretty decent little curry house for the location. The menu is somewhat sparse and most dishes have been seriously toned down to accommodate local tastebuds-be sure to ask for extra spicy on dishes like the chicken vindaloo if you’re used to U.K. or Indian spice levels. My spicy garlic chicken came with a gravy-like sauce and consisted mostly of thigh meat but was otherwise pretty good.
Prices are high compared to other countries but apparently not unreasonable by local standards: Poppadoms are seriously overpriced at about £7 for ONE poppadom plus a thimbleful of mango chutney! Naans however come in at 400 ISK or £2.25, which makes no sense at all. My chicken dish was about £14.As for tipple, the large bottle of Kingfisher at ISK 1,600 is by far the best deal compared to the local brews in bottles (at ISK 1,000 and up). Expect to spend around £40 for a basic meal for one person.
Friendly and efficient service and a cozy space, great...
