If I could give -10 stars I would! I got to the hotel earlier than my checkin after an overnight flight and was exhausted. The receptionist said “good news, your room is ready” I was so excited and then he said “but it will be …approx 40 dollars US if you want to check in early”!! I asked but it’s ready and no one else is checking into it can you please let me? The guy was super rude and said no. So I waited until check in. Another person on my tour got a different receptionist and he let her check in at 9am!!
The tour returned a few days later and we all checked into our rooms early, with the different receptionist. I was given a room opposite construction and wanted to take a nap before the next tour but couldn’t! On the Sat morn I was woken up extra early bc of the loud drilling and banging. The woman receptionist said that they have called the union and police bc the construction shouldn’t start early and I shouldn’t have been given that room bc some rooms are blocked off bc of the construction.
Well, checkout is at 11am and the mean rude receptionist called me and told me to leave the room at 11am. I had been told by my tour company that checkout was mid day so I asked if I can have the extra hour until 12pm to checkout. He said absolutely not, we have guests coming at 3pm. I told him about the construction and lack of heat (another problem) and if he can let me have a bit of time to get my stuff together and he said “ I did not know about these problems but ok, you WILL check out now”. He was so so rude. Same guy at checkin. He should NOT be working in hospitality.
Short version: rude receptionist, inconsiderate, poor service,...
Read morearrived at the hotel straight from the airport, check in was supposed to be later but we waited and our room was done pretty quickly, which was good as we had an infant that was cranky. The cleaners when we got up to the rooms where still on the floor and one of them was making special effort with my child and another helped with bags as it was a bit of a struggle. The room was small but they arranged a travel cot which was brilliant. The shower was good, the room was warm the water was hot, we had a kettle and a fridge which also makes travelling easier. We did end up buying souvenir mugs as the tiny cups are pretty useless. The reception staff where helpful, the information/souvenir stand was good too, had a lot to offer however was unmanned quite often. The bar is small but it has beer and vodka so can’t complain, the barmaid was helpful when we asked directions, she gave us a map and showed us where to get the bus etc. The tours and transfers pick up from the hotel and if you need to add another thing to your trip the staff will help you sort it. I thought the breakfast was ok, however my partner was disappointed at the lack of bacon and sausage. There was pastries, bread, fruit, eggs and cereals and a coffee machine (tiny cups again) so you had enough to get through. Location was excellent. There’s a grocery shop near by, and once you find your bearings getting anywhere is easy, close to food, shops and a couple of museums. A walk to landmarks isn’t too far either such as The Sun Voyager. Also the bus station...
Read moreThe hotel's location right next to the centre (1 km). Breakfast was good but nothing special. We were able to leave the car on the same street as the hotel, but we were lucky because all the streets around the hotel are paid parking.||We didn't like · There were three adults, and this was the only hotel out of the ten we stayed at in Iceland that gave us a fold-out bed at floor level. The receptionist checked the booking and said, ‘Ah! It's from Booking...’ and gave us a room on the ground floor with three small windows at street level, so everyone passing by could see us. We had very little privacy and had to close the blackout curtains. The hotel is very large with many floors, so it's surprising that they gave us that room at street level. We checked in at 4:30 p.m. The breakfast itself was fine, but they don't have enough tables for the number of rooms in the hotel. Guests had to be a bit crafty to get a table... otherwise you had to wait a long time for a free table to sit at. All the streets around the hotel have parking meters, as if it were a blue zone in Spain. You have to go about 2 km away to find free street parking. The photos do not correspond to the room we had, perhaps to those on the upper floors.||Finally, I would like to mention that the pillows are hard and thick, which is bad for your neck. The three adults in our group couldn't use them because after half an hour we had...
