This is going to be long, please bear with me. I noticed on Google maps this place had all five star ratings but then there weren’t all that many of them, just 24 at this time. I’m just never sure when that happens. Is it real? But I think I can explain.||If you’re looking for a minimalist budget accommodation or a huge 5 star hotel environment, Meta Suites probably is not for you. We are an American couple in our 70s and most often when in Europe, we look for a major chain for cost, consistency, and a king-sized bed (because I am 6’6”). But on occasion we treat ourselves to 5 star luxury as well. On this particular occasion our daughter met us in Bolzano for a four day getaway. I was looking for a comfortable location that wouldn’t disappoint us, not five star accommodations, but may have found better. I found Meta Suites online and was very fortunate to be able to preview the property, in person, before booking. It turns out that the suites have only been open for guest about a year at this time and it only has a handful of suites. The website doesn’t do it justice. The location is in the center of a beautiful historic area of shopping and restaurants next to the Duomo and on the main square. It’s a comfortable five or six minute walk from the main train station on a tree lined street. The airport is a few minutes by taxi. The public areas are modern, polished, and yet comfortable. ||You literally enter through a flower shop, which sets a calming tone. If you allow your stress to follow you up the elevator or stairs to the first floor reception - that’s on you. This is your chance to just let it go. Next, to reach the sign-in desk, you wind, through a terrace with lemon and olive trees, which really surprised me the first time I saw it. Gnarled olive trees with trunks two or three feet thick and loaded either olives growing in large containers on it upstairs terrace was not what I expected. By the time you get to the reception desk, you really should’ve left everything else behind.|||There is an excellent restaurant and two bars with an attentive staff and great food. They serve the public food and drinks, this is not just a hotel restaurant with the expected mediocre. We are tough on restaurants and this one made us very pleased with the taste, presentation and quality of the meals along with a very inviting and relaxing atmosphere. It’s not about pretension. While we all enjoy our meals, I had remarkable spinach pasta and I particularly thought the homemade ice cream tasted just that - homemade and delicious.||The suites are the best surprise. There’s a modern feel inside a room (or in our case rooms) but with classic European elegance. Eight foot wood doors with 12 foot ceilings give already large rooms an even more spacious feel. The wood inlaid floors, oversized, crown molding, large framed windows and floor to ceiling curtains add a high quality warm feel. The windows in the sitting room of our suite opened to a great view of the Duomo next door. The hallway and entry to our particular room had the appearance of a tile mosaic. Overall, the room was extremely clean and well cared for. ||In truth, none of this would matter without the people. The staff working in the restaurant, working in the bar, cleaning the rooms are all wonderful, caring, helpful, and friendly individuals who treated us with the utmost courtesy, and looked after every wish. But yet beyond that, there were three women who interfaced with us at the reception desk, and also seem to take on every task related to the property from checking us in and serving us breakfast to assisting with cleaning the rooms. I have traveled extensively and I have seen bed and breakfast locations where the family has taken on every task. This is not a bed-and-breakfast, it is a set of top notch hotel suites, restaurant and two bars of a serious quality. This staff and especially these three people maybe the best I’ve ever met. There was always a smile, every request was met with “of course”, and we were given everything from advice on the area to pleasant conversations like we were old friends. ||Don’t go here in a rush. Don’t expect the usual. Reception is not open 24 hours. You are big boys and girls- you can let yourself in and out. Don’t expect a cookie cutter anything. But if you are looking for high-quality, phenomenal service, and a place to relax, walk around the old city, and shed some stress - the return on your investment is more than worth it. ||I know why this place has only 5 star...
