My husband and I recently stayed for three nights at this elegant hotel in the heart of Cortona, and our only regret is not booking our stay for longer!
From the moment of our arrival, the hotel staff was so attentive, kind, and helpful. Driving into Cortona for the first time is not the most straightforward, and we admittedly found ourselves a little flustered and lost. Without hesitation, the staff stayed on the phone with us and even took the extra step of meeting us outside. After that, from the moment we stepped into the hotel we were reassured that it was time to relax. We were presented with cool hand towels and juices as we checked in, which was a lovely touch after our car ride from Florence!
The lobby is stunning, as are the rooms. For our first night, we were in a standard room as the junior suite was unavailable. The team kindly moved our luggage while we were out to the junior suite. The standard room was beautiful, and the junior suite was even more impressive with a gorgeous chandelier. All of the common areas and the room were pristine from a cleanliness perspective.
One of our favorite aspects of the hotel was the unbelievable breakfast. The space where the breakfast is held is beautiful, and guests with the breakfast package are presented with a tray of pastries, cheese, fruits and meats, and are permitted to order anything they desire off of the a la carte menu. The food was all delicious, as were the cappuccinos and again, the service was top notch!
We also loved the tranquil pool area and wish we had stayed for longer to have more time to enjoy it. With our limited amount of time we explored the charming center of Cortona, and some surrounding towns within Tuscany.
Thank you again for the staff for making our stay so memorable! We will certainly be back...
Read moreIf you would like to stay in a very cool place this is the one. It’s beautiful! The issue is that it is impossible to find if you are driving yourself. No signs at all. After driving in circles for 90 minutes and getting stuck in the town, a local woman took pity on us - left her handicapped daughter to jump in our car to take us to the hotel. She said this happens all the time - tourists lost driving in circles looking for the hotel. Streets are so narrow our small van almost didn’t get down. Very stressful. Clearly this is an Issue since the hotel explained they are not able to put signs in the street - so they sent a video with how to get there - but we never received any video. I have to be honest, when we finally arrived I let loose on the people at the front desk. It was very frustrating and we called to hotel a few times while lost.
It’s October and the hotel switched over to winter mode - so no air conditioning and it was very hot in our room. We opened the window but bugs came in so we closed it. They gave us a fan that made crazy noises and the toilet got stuck after pressing the flusher so it ran all night! We didn’t sleep at all.
Check out was 11 am so the bell man picked up our bags and we went to town. Much to our surprise, the bell man left our bags sitting in the garage near the car while we were gone for 3 hours. Would I call this hospitality - not really. We did a lot of shopping and everything was left out for the taking! Very upsetting.
We ate breakfast and it was very good. We arrived too late to take advantage of the spa and left too early to enjoy the hotel...
Read moreA hotel I highly recommend, as well as dinner at the Gli Affreschi restaurant. I was very happy with choosing the Monastero di Cortona to celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary. The service was excellent throughout. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, Bulgari amenities, and turndown service. They left us anniversary gifts, demonstrating their utmost care for the guest. It was an incredible experience to sleep in a place rich in history, which has been completely renovated, offering great comfort and good taste. Breakfast was excellent every morning, served in a beautiful indoor space and also in the outdoor patio with a special atmosphere. The pool area is very beautiful and has a beautiful view of the city from above. The spa in the ancient baths is a truly worthwhile experience. We had the privilege of dining at the Gli Affreschi restaurant and chose the tasting menu with wine pairing, and it was incredible, worthy of a Michelin star. The restaurant's atmosphere is very special, rich in history, and combined with the delicious food and excellent service, it made for a truly special evening! I recommend this restaurant to both guests and non-guests. It's worth traveling to Cortona if you're nearby to try this experience. Taziana's excellent service is a highlight. Everything is a 10/10. I plan to return whenever I'm...
