We stayed a weekend in May on the lower floor of this lovely old structure. It is a perfect mix between old and new - such old thick walls that you may never even turn on the air conditioners, a solidity that affords privacy from room to room, big old fireplace... yet fully modern as well and in every way. ||||The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, including a delicious 'crostata' that Rita had made for us. Rita and her husband are fully available to answer any questions (amazingly they even did a check in in the wee hours for a couple that arrived upstairs, which thanks to the thick floors, I slept through) but also are completely unintrusive. These are people that love this place and you can feel it - Rita was born on the adjacent property.||||The pool is set up on a rise, allowing for a lovely view of the valley. We had a big barbecue with wood from their old olive trees. The house is just below the old city - theoretically you could walk, but it's just as easy to drive the 2 minutes to the free parking area near the escalators that take you up. The house is also just down the road from where they filmed Under the Tuscan Sun!||||I love Cortona - it was my second trip. I recommend the town and this...
Read moreThis is a beautiful house (split horizontally into two self contained apartments). It was perfect for our family holiday with parents/grandparents. ||Both apartments have direct access to a beautiful pool with the most relaxing and stunning views across the valley floor towards Montepulciano to the west. ||The property is set in olive tree terraces leading up to Cortona. Even the walk around the olive trees is relaxing. ||Rita and Alessandro take great care of the property. It is spotless. There is a nice outdoor area for dining and a oil-drum barbecue with an endless supply of wood ready to go. We visited the region during the day and ate at home most evenings. ||Il Torrino is the perfect place for extended family or two families who want some time together but also their own space. We loved it and will definitely be back. ||Rita cooks a fantastic apricot flan (thanks Rita) and Alessandro speaks very good English. They really were the most hospitable people we have met yet on our journey....
