Ristorante La Loggetta Cortona — Restaurant in Cortona

We recently got married in Cortona and were lucky enough to secure Ristorante La Loggetta for our reception. The views across Piazza della Repubblica were magnificent, of course, but what made the event so special was the spectacular food (thankyou Marco) and outstanding staff ( we're looking at you Roland). Allessandro and Lara's kindness , generosity of spirit and attention to service went above and beyond, and what we hoped would be a memorable night of fine food and wine at our destination wedding, was all that and more, for our guests from Australia.

The menu consisted of aperitivo ( complete with the best aperol spritzs in Italy), antipasti ( zucchini and carrot souffle with almond sauce), primi ( fettucine with chianina beef ragut and fried sage leaves + tortello parmigiana), Secondi and Contorni ( roast rack of beef with sauce and vegetable ratatouille and mixed salad), Dolci ( Millefoglie with chantilly cream and chocolate chips).

This was hands down one of the best wine and dine experiences of our lives made even more special by the fact the staff were so excited and happy to make the night special for everyone - not just the bride and groom.

Despite commencing the reception at an early 6pm, the staff were still on hand, with smiles on their faces, delivering limoncellos at 1:30am the following morning.

The setting of this restaurant is absolutely beautiful. The outdoor seating looks over the main piazza in Cortona. We dined in July and watching it get dark was a magical experience. There was a visiting DJ the night we visited which was so fun without being intrusive.

Unfortunately I didn’t realize the (great) location when I made a reservation which is probably creating a premium in both costs and reviews. We ordered one antipasti, two pasta, and one secondi. The antipasti (asparagus soup / sauce with egg) and the secondi (sous vide veal cheek) were quite good, but both of the pastas were fairly disappointing. The service was also pretty annoying with 4-5 different people constantly coming over, sometimes asking the same questions. They also messed up my name on the reservation. My name is very Italian and Italy is usually the one place where it’s not butchered and they messed it up 🙄.

Ristorante La Loggetta was the most beautiful place to start our sister trip in Cortona. It was our first dinner in town, and it set the tone for an unforgettable 10 days.

The food was absolutely delicious. I had the clam vongole and octopus, which was my favorite — it had a touch of passion fruit that I would have never thought to pair with the protein, but it created the most incredible flavor. My sister had the pigeon and carpaccio, and every single dish was incredible, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. We were also lucky enough to be seated outside facing the square, which made the evening even more special. Dining there felt like a true celebration of Italian cuisine and the magic of Cortona.

The atmosphere was lively yet elegant, and the service was attentive throughout the entire meal. Given its popularity (and for good reason!), I highly recommend booking a reservation a couple of weeks in advance to secure a good table.
