Our experience at the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi was poor at best, and very frustrating. Though we were only staying in Rome for 2 days (not long enough, I know, but it's all the time we had), we expected a hotel which would allow us to dine and relax with ease between our 2 full days of touring. To begin, our room was not properly fitted with enough beds for 3 guests. After arriving (roughly at 1100am), the front desk recognized the issue and stated that they would have another bed brought up while we were out sightseeing. When we returned to the hotel room (6pm) the bed had not been brought up. We went upstairs to the pool and upon returning, the bed was still not there. We called the front desk and they assured us that this would be rectified, so we went to dinner at the hotel restaurant. When we returned (10pm) the bed still wasn't there. We called again. The desk said that they would fix this issue and call us back shortly. We waited another 30 minutes before calling again. A person with a 3rd bed arrived at roughly 11pm, set it up and left. We were all very tired from the day and the poor experience at the restaurant, and felt very frustrated with this experience. On the same night as our bed troubles, we also had problems with the hotels rooftop restaurant "Posh." Firstly, the hotel website did not indicate anywhere that the main restaurant was closed for renovations. Part of the reason we chose this hotel was because the on-site dining options looked great. This was disappointing, but ultimately we did not take issue with this. Everything would have been otherwise fine, had our experience dining experience not been so awful. The server was short with us and seemed unenthusiastic despite the fact that we were quite literally the only table when we arrived. He delivered us the QR menus, but failed to give us the wine menu. Upon asking for the wine menu, he simply recited 4 generic red wines (chianti, cab sav, etc) with no explanation or care. When we got our food, it was cold. We ordered 2 appetizers for the table, 1 main course each, and a bottle of wine, and this was over 250 euros. I enjoy food experiences, and I have no problem paying high prices for a great time, but this was an absurd price for what we got. The food quality and service left much to be desired. When I compare this to the cost of other dining experiences we had in Rome and around Italy (not just fancy places), this was extremely disappointing. The facilities themselves were fine, though the pool was not very large, though it did have a nice view of Rome's rooftops. The bidet did not function, and the shower was poorly designed, but the room itself was otherwise spacious with vaulted ceilings and clean. The staff of the hotel (excluding the server at "Posh" of course) were friendly and did try to be helpful. The day after these problems, and after returning from our day of touring, we talked to Guest Services. They were likewise, very friendly. In the end, they gave us a 50% discount on our meal but were unable to do anything about the room as it had been prepaid. They said they needed a manager to do anything more and that she would be coming in at 0800 the next morning. In the morning, the manager gave us a 10% discount on our total stay. I honestly had hoped for more given how poor our experience was, but we needed to catch our train to the airport and did not want to risk debating or taking additional time negotiating. Overall, this hotel was not worth 1000 Euro per night. In fact, our 3rd friend was spending an extra day and stated that his impromptu booking at the Best Western only 2 blocks away (which was $88 CAD per night) was significantly better. I wouldn't recommend a stay at this hotel, I don't think it is worth the cost.
EDIT: I'm not sure why I am unable to reply to replies, but I want it to be known that we received 20% off of one night of our stay, which is 10% off our total stay. The hotels...
Read moreVery horrible experience staying at this hotel . I and my family totaling 5 individuals stayed at this hotel from august 14th through the 19th 2023 . We arrived in the night and were given rooms at the back of the hotel which seemed to be an extension that was dimly lit . In my room there were wooden beams above my head that I really did not see online before booking this hotel . Which totally creeped me out . The front desk did not have the courtesy to let us know that they have rooms with wooden beams above your head to ask you if this is where you might like to stay. At least offer the option , as I was not planning to feel like I was in a cabin . 2 of the lights in the room were not working, and despite letting the front desk know they never came to fix it . I really wanted to feel as though I was in a hotel and I suffered through this for 3 nights miserably . I finally was able to get my room changed to a regular roofed room however I was plagued with mosquitoes and was unable to sleep . The air conditioner in all the rooms I stayed at this hotel in my opinion are very lack luster . It does not go below 17.5 and really you feel like you are in an oven . I practically had to strip off my clothes to try to feel cool in such a humid place. The manger Claudia on the day before my departure was kind enough to upgrade me to a suite , however the ac did not work upstairs which is were the bed is and so it just defeated the purpose. The height of my disgust at this hotel was the racial profiling that was given to me and my family . I am black and it’s not a curse to be black , but to have an individual security or whatever , watch us as though we were vagabonds that did not deserve to be at this hotel was the height of it. We paid money to be at this hotel … not little money I will add . We were waiting for our ride to the airport and decided to wait at the lobby . We did not feel welcome at all. My niece had ordered a meal from McDonald’s next door and as she was about to snack on it , a security guard had said she cld not . Which is understood . So we went outside the premises to snack on it . Immediately we came back , this overzealous guard or whatever he is kept circling around us . Over 50 times, he was just circling around us to the point I had to intentionally have eye contact with him to let him know we are aware of what he is doing . We are not dumb people , neither do we expect to be treated in such a manner at your hotel . We don’t have to be white for you to treat humans with decency . After all our money is all the same . Due to this , we will never ever return back to this hotel . Not to forget , they claimed we were members of their hotel and as such we cld have been afforded a late checkout . My sister had asked if we cld get an extension , for an hr or 2 as our flight was for a little later . To which they said no. Shame on this hotel for not knowing how to treat and keep business . We frequent Rome and will never stay at this hotel . You claim to be 5 star but it sure felt like 1 star. Total waste of money on this...
Read moreNot the luxury you expect from Anantara brand.
During my two-night stay in the junior suite, it was a mixed feeling. The positives are the gorgeous room, very comfortable bed and the beautiful lobby. Definitely, you feel that sense of contemporary Italian style. The concierge were also helpful. Also they were very quick when request something from the room. Location is great that it's close to the train station but it's a very busy circle. The noise did go through my windows and curtains at night.
The negatives were what bring down my Roman experience. First, my Discovery status was not recognized during check-in. So I later asked if the hotel participates in the program, one of the check-in staff replied in condasending tone that "of course, this is the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome" like I was some kind of idiot who didn't know where he was. I got no upgrade, which is very understandable. They later send me a bowl of macarons as welcome gift for Titanium Discovery member. I did appreciate that.
I also did not know that the lounge access does not include breakfast which is common in many hotels (including other Anantara.) So I had to pay extra for the breakfast. The person who check me in didn't even tell me how to access Wifi and the hotel's wifi was down for like 10 hours. So much for luxury.
My room package includes two tickets to Roman museums. I asked the concierge and they told me which ones would I want to visit. It is a very last minute thing to do so the ticket I got was not my first choice. I wish they could have done this prior to the stay.
The breakfast, while the buffet line is good, the service was definitely one the worst I have been too. After I was taken to my table, no menu was given nor someone came to take my coffee order. I sat there for five minute and still no one noticed me. I went up to get some food from the buffet and after about 10 minutes, a staff acknowledged me and took my coffee order. But she wasn't the main service staff so she couldn't do more than that. Then the actual service staff come to ask if I want anything. Well, I asked for the a la cart menu and water. The restaurant wasn't packed and they did have enough staff. I mean there are 3 hostess at the desk who joyfully took white customers to their tables with menu, water order and explanation. The whole experience makes me question if I has been subconsciously decimated because it looked that way.
I also went to the rooftop restaurant. The service was good. Food is okay. It is very pricey though. Like seriously, 39 euros for 10 slices of pork? But the place is gorgeous.
But that's it. If you want to stay at a 5 star hotel in Rome with this price range, there are better options. This is a NH collection at max. Thankfully this is not my first Anantara stay, otherwise,I would try to stay way...
