I find it hard to review because it is such a mixed bag. ||||First, the good: Terrifically convenient location, very near the edge of the Jewish ghetto and close to the Campo dei Fioro market and plaza.||||This B & B is in a 16th century structure with residential apartments. A few rooms hide away from a large common area living space and breakfast dining area (not air conditioned but comfortable nonetheless. The ceilings are very high and decorative. Old large paintings, antiques and books abound. If you use the living room, it is likely you will have it to yourself. It is not air conditioned There is a small grand piano (for decoration.... "Do not play..") and an array of available spirits to sip -- mostly good grappa.||||There is no "front desk" or foyer, so you must coordinate someone meeting you upon your arrival. After our cab let us off, we waited in the hot sun just long enough to get concerned when the host called to us from a window and was most gracious in welcoming us, bringing up our bags (in the elevator tiny enough to require multiple trips with bags only) while we walked a few flights of wide stone steps.||||We met up with our college student daughter who had just finished study in Italy, so we booked ||the "split level suite" where the modern (but tight) bathroom and a bed are on a lower level and a corner spiral staircase bring you to the fuller bedroom area with the TV etc.that overlooks the lower level. (The 2 levels together equate with the total ceiling height of the common area living room.) There are many choices of how to atmospherically light the room (spots, recessed lighting, dimmers etc.). ||||BUT, the air conditioning was inadequate to the point of almost useless, and the mattress on the lower level bed (where my wife and i slept) was not firm; rather it was very hard. There was one flat skimpy pillow for each of us and although there was a single extra pillow in the closet, there was no pillow case to be found. My wife has hip pain and does not well tolerate a very hard mattress. After the first morning, while we were at (wonderful) breakfast, we mentioned these things to the manager who travels between the company's properties. He assured us that he would have the maid place one two duvets or comforters under the sheet and have for us additional pillows (in cases) for when we return later in the day. But when we returned, nothing of the sort had been done. The case-less pillow remained in the closet. To make matters worse, the air conditioning had been turned off in our absence leaving little prospect for cooling the high ceiling space enough to allow for comfortable sleeping. I sent off an disturbed email and the manager responded very promptly (although i am not confident that there would always be someone around and available for responding). He was very gracious: he indicated that there had been a cancellation in the room just off the living room, and that my wife and i could move there. (Our daughter would stay put.) The room was magnificent, air conditioning a little better but still poor, but the communication was terrible. My wife moved all her stuff to the other room expecting to finish out our next few days there, bit the next day we were kicked out with an apology and explanation that it the move was meant to be for one night only. We would have been happier not to have our expectations and accommodations seesaw.||||Bottom line: Uncomfortable. Insufficient air conditioning, too hard a bed, cramped lower level quarters and some inn keeper ball-dropping with confusing recovery. The It might be a better experience if you select the Master Room, but keep away from the...
Read moreThe neighborhood around Campo De' Fiori is my favorite in all of Rome. This property is not a "traditional" hotel, in that the rooms are on a floor inside a building which houses other residential apartments. It is a couple of floors up and there is an elevator available. The owners have done a fabulous job refurbishing the space. It retains the charm of the building--such as GORGEOUS ceilings from the 1600s--but has been modernized to be completely comfortable. Air conditioning is heaven sent. The bathroom is roomy and the shower is modern and fabulous. Our bed was kingsize and comfortable. There was a loveseat-sized chair in the room. We had a corner room with lovely views overlooking Via dei Giubbonari, which is the (mainly) pedestrian street leading to Campo De' Fiori. With the soundproof windows closed, no noise reached the room. It was a FABULOUS location. in addition to Campo De'Fiori, Piazza Navona is in easy walking distance. A generous, tasty breakfast of pastries, yogurt, scrambled eggs, pancakes, meats, cheeses and fresh squeezed orange juice was included each morning. It can be enjoyed at a table in the reception area or brought to your room. This property is a wonderful value for its quality and location. I loved it and would stay again...
Read moreWe stayed for 4 nights at this lovely B&B. Not at all cheap, but worth the moeny. Location is ideal and the house nicely restaured and decorated. The kitchen is lovely, but you will only be allowed to have breakfast there if the lady on shift allows you. We were told at check in that we could choose o have breakfast either in the kitchen or in the dinning room. We had breakfast in the kitchen the first day, which was lovely, but to our surprise, the lady wouldn't allow us to the next days...the dining room was fine, but not as cozy.||Our room was nice and spacious, but the bed was ridicously small, would not even be big enough for a single person! And the air conditioning non-existing, the machine must be as old as the house, so we were better off openning the windows.||And last but not least, they'll ask you to give them the ETA, which is understanding since it's not a hotel but a B&B (but they charge as a hotel!!!!), if you're not there by the time you were supposed to, they will call you at any number they can, they even called me at my work since that was one of the numbers I gave at time of booking, which I find totally...
