ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED. For a four star hotel, the cleanliness and subsequent customer service surrounding it is appalling. We checked in today for a single night stay knowing we should have quality service and accommodations.

We arrived at check in time and were asked to wait an additional 35 minutes in order for our room to be finished (we have a family of 3 including a child) because they needed to prepare the small secondary bed before we could enter. We assumed the room was completely ready when we were finally given our room number and key cards. First floor where you can hear street noise overlooking an incredibly nondescript alleyway. We were relaxing in our room for a half hour when with NO KNOCK, a woman entered, and said she was here to prepare our bed. I scrambled to put a shirt on as she came in. She was polite and quick, but I was so freaked out that someone just walked into the room with zero permission. I felt my privacy and safety were so violated.

After she left, we unpacked a bit and I decided to shower. I entered the bathroom and even in the dim light, I could see scuffs on the wall and a DRIED BOOGER on the makeup mirror. Dirty and gross. I chanced the shower anyways and got in, facing towards the shower head and away from the metal safety handle bar. When I turned around to rinse my hair, I discovered LONG, DARK, BLACK women’s hair absolutely COVERING the opposite wall and safety bar (noting that I myself have very short blonde hair, my child has blonde hair, and my spouse has short brown hair; neither had entered the shower at any point in our two hours in the room anyways). Sick to my stomach and horrified, I ended my shower early and got out.

When I went downstairs to alert the staff, I was nearly in tears and sick to my stomach. I approached the front desk where two gentlemen were (one tall and skinny with dark hair and glasses, the other bald with glasses and a bit heavier than the other). After telling them my issues with the bathroom and showing them the video and pointing to my VERY blonde and short hair, the bald gentleman’s solution was to send someone up to clean, offering nothing else. My daughter was asleep for a nap and I asked if I should have her woken up for the cleaning. He got on the phone and called a colleague so I guess I had no option but to wake my child up to accommodate them.

And that’s all that was done. Violated, unsafe, unsanitary, dirty, and nearly rude, I feel like our very last night on our trip has been destroyed. I would NOT recommend this hotel as there is no telling what is clean and what isn’t. Are the sheets clean? Are the coffee cups clean? Was the toilet actually sanitized? We will never know, and apparently. The staff is apathetic about it and should probably work at a local motel rather than an upscale Hilton property. SHAME!

EDIT: big bald manager’s name is Arcangelo. My mother and sister had a room three doors down and their room was ALSO covered in long black hair when they went to shower three hours after us. I think there might be a disgruntled housekeeper but management did NOTHING after realizing how disgusting both of our rooms were. We’ve collectively traveled to five different continents and have had better customer service for an issue of HYGIENE at hotels a fraction of the cost of this one. RED FLAG. DO...

I stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti around a year ago. It’s a reasonably small hotel in the Monti neighbourhood of the city, within walking distance of the city’s main attractions including the Colosseum and Roman Forum, and right by Rome Termini Station, which is handy, especially if you’re getting the bus to Termini from the airport.

In terms of room rates, it can get pretty pricey here, often exceeding 400 euros a night. I managed to pick up a good deal redeeming my Hilton Points here, though, at around 60,000 points per night. With 133 rooms, it is a fairly small hotel, so there’s limited access to upgrades for Hilton Honors members.

Walking into the hotel, I had a great first impression with the lobby being beautiful, with plenty of seats to relax. My room was pretty typical of Europe — fairly small but had pretty much everything needed, including a comfortable bed and large TV. In terms of the bathroom, the standalone shower was great, although I did find the taps in the faucet confusing. There was also a bidet, which is pretty standard.

The staff were great too, especially Irene, who worked on reception, and another staff member from Romania whose name I can sadly not remember. The housekeeping staff were also friendly and did a great job keeping the room tidy, replacing my bottled water without having to ask.

I had to change rooms during my stay and noticed slight inconsistencies between rooms, such as one room having USB-C charging while the other had standard ports. I had a maintenance issue with the USB ports failing to work in one of the rooms, and they replaced this for me. The thermostat in the second room also wouldn’t go below 24°C, which is certainly not what you’d want with the heat you can find in Rome. The lights and AC also appeared to be on a sensor, which could be annoying, but I get that they want to protect the environment.

I did find the room to be a little noisier than other hotels I’ve stayed in, with a lot of noise from housekeeping, who started early.

Breakfast was pretty poor — there was a lack of gluten-free options, the scrambled eggs were often cold and bland, and I found it odd that they’d provide carrots on the buffet.

I would consider returning to the hotel in the future as the service was great, although I don’t think the hotel justified its premium price tag, as so many things are...

Avoid all the fancy, ultra-expensive hotels in Rome and come stay at this fantastic, mid-range facility. Located at the popular but not touristy Monti district, this fairly recently renovated, modern hotel is only four blocks from the Roma Termini and 20 minutes walk to the Colosseum, Forum, Trevi Fountain and near multiple Metro stations and a block from numerous bus stops which by the way is how one should move around the city aside from walking.|I stayed four nights each on two stops within 10 days at the DoubleTree and I sampled a superior room and a deluxe corner room with windows all around and aside from the modest size difference, there is not much difference. I have enclosed photos of both rooms starting with the smaller superior room which is more than acceptable. |Beds were extremely comfortable along with the beddings and pillows. Coffee machine, kettle, refrigerator and safe are all present. Plenty of storage. A little tight for opening large suitcases but that’s true anywhere. Bathroom is modern and very functional. Walk-in enclosed shower only. Robes and slippers thoughtfully provided.|Elevators are readily available and are the see through variety. Lots of staff on hand plus door person for extra security. It is in a very safe neighborhood if you wondered.|I recommend arranging breakfast when booking for the room as it is excellent and pays for itself easily. WiFi is good. US-B plugs only so you will need an adapter ( not a transformer.)|And don’t forget to visit the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore across the street from the hotel. It is, in my opinion, the most gorgeous cathedral in Rome and it’s free!|A few suggestions: |1. take the Leonardo Express for €14 to Roma Termini. Buy ticket at Trenitalia machine. Comes every 15 minutes. Walk to hotel. |2. Colosseum tickets are the hardest to get online. Skip the line guided tours is the way to go. Best is directly from the Colosseum ticket office is the best. Get the guided underground if you can but tickets are impossible to get online so pay a little more for commercial guided tour may be best option.|3. Avoid taking Metro from 8:30 to 9:30 am to the Vatican from the Rome Termini on a work day. Tokyo subway pales against it. |Go one station after as a lot of...
