Hotel Espana - GRUPPO BLAM HOTELS — Hotel in Rome

I regret from booking at this hotel. I booked and 100% paid my 3 night stay at Hotel Espana almost 2 months prior. And my greatest fear came true.

I had exactly the same experience as another reviewer that wrote His review 2 months before mine.

I got a good deal thru Agoda reservation website to stay at this hotel. At booking, I commented in advance that I was going to check in late because of my flight, around 11pm- 12am. They replied to me that was ok. We started our well planned vacation ,we showed up at this hotel and the man told us that our room had some kind of problem with some piping and that we could not stay in the room they had for us, but that they where going to send us to a close by hotel.

I felt cheated, I read that this happend to another traveler just weeks ago .!!

I got upset and told the man that I paid a taxi to bring us there because was late and very dark. I didnt felt comfortable walking past midnight to a hotel I didn't booked. Well, all he said is sorry.He walked us out and locked the doors behind us. And then here is my pregnant wife and me walking in the dark streets late at night carrying luggage to a unknown hotel. Definitely not an experience you wanna go thru when you just arrive at your wonderful holiday destination.

So, if read this review, Be aware!!! Recently it has happened to at least two of us....

If you have to check in late, ultimately you might not end up staying at Hotel Espana because they might give the room you paid to a walking in customer that maybe is willing to pay more than what you paid. Or it can be that they like to over book the hotel and send customers that paid less than premium prices to other...

What I liked: Very good location, quite central (20 minutes by walk from the Colosseum) and close to subway and tram/bus stops. Super nice staff and always available to help (you can contact them via WhatsApp any time and they are always online). The breakfast offered and the coffee machine available any time for free were very welcome despite having chosen the option without breakfast included (so why does the paid option exist when it is then said by the staff that breakfast is offered to everyone for free always?).||What I didn’t like: Unfortunately as an overall experience I have to say disappointing. We paid an overall of 1000 euros and at the beginning we were given a miserable room that is absolutely unsuitable for hosting guests. Very old structure, bad smells, broken things like doors and rust (see photos). In addition, the Wi-Fi did not work and we had a water leak which forced me to ask to change the room (thing I had to do for the first time in my entire existence!).|The second room we got was better, which at least reflected the value of a 3 star, but it was a pity the cleaning service (one day we came back to the room late afternoon to rest a bit and the room still hadn't been done, and I had to ask to come and do it). Embarrassing the toilet under the sink (see photo), which made normal sitting impossible (again, first time in my life I've seen something like this). This hotel is visibly not 100% ready to host guests in all of its rooms so please don't let the unsuitable ones be used (especially by charging...

This is a pretty LOW CLASS hotel in this vicinity in Rome. The approach roads are unclean, with the nearest metro point being about 1.5 km away. I was a bit encouraged at seeing at least some of the positive review comments in here, but now after having stayed here for 2 nights, I just cannot fathom how on earth any of the genuine reviews in here could be positive !

Here's my verdict: 1). The rooms are quite small, even for a single person occupancy. The 2 small cots pretty much fill the room. 2). Breakfast is very lean with no facility to heat the slices of meat they give, 3). WiFi DOES NOT work (despite repeated reminders/complaints)..., and I've Airtel who has very smartly charged exorbitant rates on my data usage for minimal usage (that's another battle I've to fight after getting home). 4). if you have heavy luggage then you have to pull them up over the stairs (yes.. no lift), 5). Air Conditioning is not effective... we found it very cold at night with the AC not working (some air leak thru' the windows or somewhere into the room from outside). 6). You will invariably find cars parked on both sides of the road in front leaving space for one car lane traffic, thereby not even leaving space for your car-drop or pick-up to park for a few minutes for you to alight/get in. The approach roads are very dirty with garbage, dog poop etc. 7). No dental kit, shaving kit etc..

Even if you discount #7, it's pretty hopeless. My sincere advice to folks who is looking for value for money: PLEASE DO NOT EVER CHOOSE THIS HOTEL FOR...
