About 3 minutes on foot from Castro Pretorio metro station. Safe neighbourhood, near Turkish embassy with 24 h carabineer soldiers on duty. Hotel Katty is on the 4th and 5th floor of the building, with small but functional elevator. It is unique experience to use that ashensor (Elevator) which fit 2 or 3 thin people. Like those elevators in old-fashioned movies. But we did not have any problem with it. We used the lift separated in group od 2-3.Rooms are spacious, warm, very clean, they clean them every day. They are very basic equipped but you do not need anything else when you are all day out of the room. Room on the 5th floor, number 105, I can say is more an apartment than classic room, it can accommodate 4 people, there are two connected rooms and two toilets/bathrooms in each room. Clean towels everyday. Breakfast is very basic, served in bar Good Fellas, 2 blocks away, croissant,orange-juice and coffee (espresso or cappuccino). For Balcan people, used to rich breakfast, is not sufficient but we survived :-). Food is not on my priority list. Exploring of Rome was our priority. There is one market Pam Panorama, 3 minutes away from Hotel Katty. PIZZERIA (trattoria) Al 92 is next to the hotel. Livio, guy on the reception was very friendly. You can buy metro/bus tickets on the reception. Livio can explain to you which buses or way of transport is the best option for your planned daily excursions. We were two families, with two teenagers, in room next to us was family with little baby. Yes, you can hear singing, laughing or baby crying coming from room next to yours but it is normal with healthy kids. Tiny walls did not bother me. Wi-Fi signal was not fast enough for our teenagers, but have in mind that teenagers have specific needs.it is enough for casual use not for downloading, my son says :-). Wi-Fi signal is better in the room with reception desk. If you need low budget hotel, near Termini, 15 minutes walking distance from piazza Republica, hotel Katty is good option. Piazza Barberini is 20 minutes walking distance. Bus-stop just 5 minutes...
Read moreBooked this hotel for the family with breakfast, two days prior to flying we had a message that they could not provide any breakfast and we'd get refunded at the hotel, we thought it would be ok and stayed with them. When we arrived the place is 5 floors up and they wanted the City tax within moments of us getting there. As they had to refund the breakfast side the Manager said it would balance out and left it at that. Now the room was big and had two bathrooms and two massive beds. Cleaning was a issue as they never cleaned up after the last guests as we found rubbish under the beds and the floor has stains on it. after the first night we found that a couple of us had bites on our legs, we put it down to mosquitoes but the 2nd night it was worse, one of our kids had 20 bites and a chemist stated it had been bed bugs. the Hotel refused to hear a word of it and stated it was a swarm of mosquitoes and even the (so called elderly )cleaner stated we were told wrong. that last night we slept on mutliple covers and wasn't bit. Glad we left. Also that same night we were told by the manager that we still had to pay the city tax and get our refund through our booing agent, a ploy due to us stating about bed bugs i guessed. did get the refund but beware of this hotel and i'd say...
Read moreFriendly service but low value. Location is optimal, 10 mins walk from Termini. Great service with quick replies via email and WhatsApp. Both receptionists communicated proficiently in English and housekeeping was very welcoming. Though we checked in late (11pm), Piera was ready to rec'v us. Lidio reserved us a taxi to Ciampino for 3am (€50).
The biggest drawback: lack of value. After fees I spent €280/4 nights. This place is simply not worth €70/night, maybe €40. To compare, in Aug 2018 I stayed at the superior Hotel Des Artistes across the street for the same price which included a huge room and breakfast. I chose Hotel Katty this time because Hotel Des Artistes had sadly closed due to the pandemic and mysteriously, there were no other hotel available for the dates I wanted. This was perhaps due to the G20 summit taking place in Rome (Oct 2021). Otherwise, room and bathroom was clean enough, timer light switches are good and eco friendly. TV worked, and there was a lift to the 5th floor (max 2 ppl). Breakfast option (value €4) redeemed for pastry and coffee at the Pretorius Café across the street.
My advice, book weeks in advance and only consider this place for ~€40/night, or look for more valuable options. In general, compare search engine rates to booking...
