I visited this restaurant based on positive reviews, but unfortunately had a frustrating experience that I feel compelled to share.
The food was incredibly disappointing - overly salty and bland with no real standout flavors, and ugly presentation. For the prices charged, I expected much better quality and taste.
Most concerning was being charged a "coperto" (cover charge). As per Lazio Regional Law No. 21/2006, Article 16, coperto charges are completely illegal in Rome and the entire Lazio region. The law specifically states: "Nel caso di somministrazione di alimenti e bevande a prezzo fisso è vietata l'applicazione di costi aggiuntivi per il servizio, il coperto, le bevande e quant'altro non sia compreso nell'offerta al pubblico ed appositamente pubblicizzato nell'offerta medesima" (In the case of serving food and drinks at fixed prices, it is forbidden to apply additional costs for service, cover charge, drinks and anything else not included in the public offer and specifically advertised in the same offer).
They brought complimentary-seeming bruschetta to the table, creating the impression it was free, only to charge for coperto afterward. This felt deceptive and left a bad taste beyond just the food. The worst part was that the bruschetta wasn't even good. Service charges (servizio) are only legal in Lazio if they are clearly noted on the menu before ordering, but coperto charges remain completely prohibited regardless.
Given the mediocre food quality and questionable billing practices that violate regional law, I cannot recommend this establishment. There are many other restaurants in Rome that offer better food and honest pricing. I'm genuinely puzzled by the positive reviews - perhaps my experience was an outlier, but the illegal charging alone is enough reason to avoid this place.

Read moreWe happenedupon this restaurant as we were looking for a place to eat an early dinner. We had not read any reviews so we were pleasantly surprised to have found a gem. Our experience showed that you cannot be in a hurry to eat at this restaurant. The owner, Mia, served us. There was only one other patron in the restaurant. We told Mia that we were celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary. After we ordered, Mia brought us a caprese salad appetizer to share on the house. His portion of wine with the meal was ample. My husband ordered the fish which was served with a flare (see photo). After we ate, we sat for a while before we could get Mia's attention to bring the check. He came over and said that we needed dessert first. We objected saying that we had had plenty to eat. He just nodded his head and walked away to bring back tiramasu and Prosecco to celebrate our anniversary. If you want a relaxing meal, I encourage you to try Mia's Ristorante in Rome near...
