The Navona Essence Hotel could not be in a better location. A very short walk to Campo de Fiori, most major tourist sights are a 20 minute walk from this hotel. A quiet hotel with an elevator, all was well with our stay until the day before our departure. My partner woke up with a row of perhaps 9 tiny bug bites on his left arm. We, unfortunately, left the window slightly open the previous night and we thought some flying insect had entered and repeatedly bit my partners arm. The next morning my partners arm was in bad shape. The tiny bites were now much larger, very itchy, and uncomfortable. We flew home, arriving too late to visit a clinic. My partners arm was not better, still itchy, uncomfortable and oozing slightly. A trip to Emergency confirmed my partner had been bitten by a bed bug. We were shocked, but research indicated bed bug infestation is quite common in all hotel classes, on airplanes and other modes of transportation. I emailed the hotel. giving them our room number and the unfortunate news that their hotel had a bed bug infestation. I heard nothing from the hotel, so I wrote a longer, more detailed email, asking for a reply. I was not asking for any discount or refund, my purpose was to make sure they addressed this serious health concern. After a total of 3 emails. I gave up and decided to post a review. I have no idea if the hotel has addressed their bed bug issue. I suspect that they have not. I would advise staying in a different hotel in Rome, as dealing with your clothing packed in suitcases is labor intensive, and bed bug bites can be quite uncomfortable...
Read moreGreat hotel located centrally in Rome with always-available helpful staff at the front desk, located right beside a lovely public square with great restaurants and atmosphere.
The hotel is located in a small street, some might consider it an alley. You will need to walk for approx. 5 mins over cobblestone to access the hotel, which if you are carrying lots of luggage will be physically challenging.
However, once checked in you are in a great location to walk to most of the main attractions in Rome (we walked to the Colleseum and the Vatican City for example).
The room was fine and did the job, the bed was comfortable. There was no view from our room. We were right beside the elevator and we could hear people getting in and out of the elevator which woke us up very early one morning.
The bathroom was fine, the shower was broken initially and water was splashing out of the shower area, we informed the staff at the front desk and it was repaired that same day which was very impressive!
One should expect that hotels in the city centre of Rome will be small. This hotel is small, there is no bar or lounge area in the hotel for example. There is a breakfast area but we did not have breakfast...
Read moreWe give this place high marks all around. We traveled around Rome for 6 days and found the location to be very central for both walking as well at bus routes. Plus there are lots of restaurants in the area. For example, it is a 10 minute lovely walk over to the bridge and river Tiber to the Trastevere which has a number of fun restaurants. ||The rooms were larger than our rooms in Venice and Florence. They include a safe, refrigerator, hot pot, TV, strong WiFi and lots of hot water. There is an elevator.||Plus the service was the best. Check is was a breeze and the front desk seems to be staffed 24/7. The women that runs the breakfast (7:30-9:30) is just excellent. Very attentive and charming. She is the best!! The breakfast include scrambled eggs, bacon, hot dogs, pancakes, pastries, cake, bread/toast, ham, salami, cheese, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit, cereal, juice, coffee, tea.... quite a selection.||Finally although you are close to the action as soon as you close the windows the room is very quite for sleeping.||We would/will definitely stay here again next time we...
