When visiting Rome, there are countless places to enjoy authentic Italian food, but Mariuccia is one of those special gems that truly stands out. Tucked away in a charming Roman street, the restaurant immediately welcomes you with its cozy atmosphere and warm hospitality. From the moment you step inside, you feel less like a customer and more like a guest being invited to someone’s home. The décor is simple yet elegant, with a rustic charm that perfectly matches the culinary experience that awaits. The highlight, of course, is the food. Every dish we tried tasted like it was made with genuine love and respect for traditional Italian recipes, yet with a touch of creativity that made it memorable. The pasta was absolutely outstanding—perfectly al dente and paired with sauces that were rich in flavor without being overwhelming. My personal favorite was the carbonara: creamy, savory, and balanced in a way that is hard to find even in Rome. The portions were generous enough to be satisfying, but not so large that they felt heavy. Beyond the pasta, the appetizers and main courses also deserve special mention. The bruschetta was a beautiful start—fresh tomatoes, basil, and olive oil that tasted like the essence of summer on a slice of crunchy bread. We also tried a selection of cheeses and cured meats that paired wonderfully with a glass of local wine. The house wine itself was remarkable—smooth, balanced, and reasonably priced. You can tell that Mariuccia puts thought not just into the food, but also into creating the perfect overall dining experience. The service was exceptional. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, always ready to recommend a dish or explain the origins of a recipe. They spoke with genuine passion about the food, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Even though the restaurant was busy, we never felt rushed, and every interaction felt personal. This kind of hospitality makes a big difference, especially for visitors like me who want to not only taste great food but also connect with the culture. Another thing I appreciated about Mariuccia was the balance between locals and tourists. Unlike some restaurants in Rome that feel designed purely for tourists, Mariuccia had a healthy mix of local diners, which speaks volumes about its authenticity and reputation in the neighborhood. Sitting there, surrounded by Italian conversations and laughter, made me feel like I was part of the community, even if just for an evening. In terms of value, Mariuccia is excellent. Prices are fair considering the quality of the food, the generous portions, and the high level of service. For the experience you receive, it feels like a bargain compared to other restaurants in the area. Overall, I cannot recommend Mariuccia highly enough. If you are in Rome and looking for a place where tradition meets passion, where every plate tells a story, and where you will leave with a smile on your face and memories to last a lifetime, this is the place to go. It’s more than just a meal—it’s a Roman experience you...
Read moreMaruccia is a charming restaurant that I highly recommend reserving in advance. When we arrived, there was a short wait of about 15-20 minutes, and the line grew even longer after we were seated. The restaurant's interior is beautiful, with a lovely labyrinth-like layout that allowed us to admire the delightful decor as we made our way to our table. We were warmly welcomed, and the servers were incredibly kind and attentive. For our meal, we ordered pizza, carbonara pasta, and a unique appetizer—a fried potato dish with eggplant and cheese. Starting with the carbonara pasta, I found it to be a bit disappointing. The house-made pasta was too thick, making it less enjoyable to eat. However, the pizza more than made up for it. It was simply outstanding, arguably the best pizza I've had in Italy! The crust was thin and perfectly cooked, allowing the flavors to melt in your mouth. The appetizer, suggested by our server, was exquisite. The combination of fried potato, eggplant, and cheese was a delightful surprise and is highly recommended if you're looking for something different from the usual pizza or pasta. In summary, my dining experience at Maruccia was fantastic. The ambiance, service, and most importantly, the pizza, were all excellent. While the carbonara pasta didn't meet my expectations, the overall experience was very enjoyable. If you visit Maruccia, definitely try the pizza and consider the unique appetizer for a...
Read moreA strange and uncomfortable experience. I really looked forward to eating here for months but the waitress was, for some reason, unnecessarily rude from the moment we sat down. We could not understand why as she seemed to be pleasant with everyone else. The pizza I was looking forward to having for my birthday is not always available and it was not a problem for me, but when I asked for a suggestion as I then had to decide a new order on the spot (a seemingly massive inconvenience for her), her reply was not at all helpful and rather rude. I then simply asked if the pistacchio crema they used was sweet (I don’t like it sweet with mortadella and had something similar recently that wasn’t great for me). She just pointed to the picture of the pizza saying “it’s this one”. So cos'è la mortadella, sono italiana… it’s not even a response to my question. 😕
The food lacks flavour and was seasoned only with the waitress’s saltiness. She then became suddenly a pleasant person only when asking you if you want dessert.😒 It would have been nice but I really just wanted to leave because she made the experience so uncomfortable. We had to watch her clear out several people who arrived and finished after us before giving us the bill (the second time we asked for it).
La birra era calda, il cibo era freddo. La pizza è carina ma manca il sapore, fatta più per un palato americano. Il nostro antipasto sapeva di...
