No matter what other reviews you read in searching for a hotel in Sorrento, you must know that none of them can even begin to compare to the entire experience you’ll have when you book at Capodimonte. ||||I will easily reach the character limit on this review so I’ll do my best to be concise without omitting too much.||||Here’s the only Sorrento hotel review you’ll ever need:||||Put simply, Capodimonte feels less like you’re staying in a hotel and more like you’re at your vacation home. ||||Upon arrival you’ll likely be greeted atop the gorgeous driveway by the tirelessly hard working and helpful Tonino. He’ll first help with your bags, but quickly you’ll realize he is your go-to for anything and everything you could need in and around Sorrento. Need a recommendation for a non-touristy beach? Ask Tonino. Unsure how to get to one of the places on your Sorrento checklist? Tonino will show you the way. Exhausted from the heat when visiting in the summer? Ask Tonino where you can find the best spot for a refreshing Spritz. He’s the best way to begin your Capodimonte stay, and he’ll give you the best send-off when you begrudgingly have to leave. ||||Now that you’ve made it inside:||||Close your eyes and think of the all time greatest hotel check in experience you’ve ever had. Now forget about it, because you’ll never feel more welcomed and valued as a guest than you will when you meet the indescribably incredible front desk staff at Capodimonte. ||||Whether you’re greeted by Roberta, Carlo, Mara, Manuela, Mariana, Salvatore, or anybody else, you can be certain they’ll make you feel like you’re already a familiar face. They will move mountains to help accommodate your needs, whether an early check in, a change in your reservation, a dinner reservation, a taxi at a moments notice, and dozens and dozens of other ways they will deliver on whatever opportunity arises to improve the experience of you as their guest. You can’t help but smile back at them every time you walk through the lobby, because you know their smiles are genuine and they take extremely seriously their role in providing you with the most seamless and enjoyable experience you can possibly have. ||||In an effort to avoid running out of characters I can write, I can’t give nearly enough praise to the numerous other staff members that impact and improve every aspect of your stay. Just to mention a few others, I must give thanks to folks like Luigi, Mario, Michele, Marco and so many others that I swear must work 18 hour days because they are always at ready for anything you may need, whenever and wherever you are at this incomparable property. ||||Speaking of the property…||||Mark my words - You couldn’t dream up a more ideal and picturesque hotel than you will actually experience in reality when you stay at Capodimonte. ||||Some hotels boast a waterfront location. Others pride themselves on their proximity to Piazza Tasso where all the action is happening. But none of them can claim to encapsulate all of the above and so much more as Capodimonte can offer you.||||Enjoy being able to relax in a pool while you travel? Surely then you’ll love having access to FIVE infinity pools with more than enough lounge chairs for everyone, all of which overlook the most beautiful setting you’ll ever find from a hotel pool? You won’t be able to stop yourself from grabbing your phone and taking pictures from this pool because otherwise there’s no way your friends will believe you when you describe it to them. ||||I could write for several more hours about how uniquely perfect of a hotel that is Capodimonte. ||||Instead, I’ll leave you with just this one last note:||||My wife and I just concluded our fourth stay at Capodimonte. It is where we were married. It is where we will return each year and that is a non-negotiable for us. ||||And no matter how many times we visit and how many nights we’ve stayed in one of their perfect rooms, I still every single day arise each morning at the crack of dawn, without any alarm, and sit out on the balcony watching the sun rise in awe of how perfect the views and blessed we are to have found Hotel Capodimonte. ||||You’ll never regret booking your stay at...
Read moreWe just finished an eight-day stay at GHC. We were in a Premire Room. We really enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend it to others. ||1. The hotel is located at the southern end of town, about one kilometer up a slightly sloping hill. You can be in the center square of Sorrento in 15 minutes. ||2. The Premier Rooms and those of a higher level come with a patio, table, and chairs that overlook the five cascading pools and have a beautiful view of the city and the coast. ||3. There are two main restaurants in the hotel for dinner. Bellevue is outside and is only available by reservation. It is covered by a pergola and has a view of the city and Gulf of Naples. Le Ginestre is inside and has a 180⁰ view through huge windows. Breakfast is held in a third space, Le Querce. It is a covered patio, open in front with a gorgeous view of the town and water. ||Lunch at GHC can be found on a terrace overlooking the pools in the Grill Restaurant Bougainvillea. It is directly next to the Apertif Bar L'Agrumento. ||We enjoyed the breakfasts (open from 7-10 a.m.) each day. There are a number of different buffet stations available to get a continental breakfast. There is also an omelet and egg station with meat, potatoes, tomatoes, and beans. Bread table in the middle, with a toaster available along the side. Waiters will get you hot beverages. ||We did try lunch one day on the terrace. It was not very good. They messed up pizza (in Italy) and a vegetable/mussle soup. We just wanted to stay in one day while at the pool. Maybe other items are better. The service was excellent. ||We had dinner at Le Ginestre the first night when we arrived late. The menu was limited, but we tried a Gamberetti and a Ravioli for Primi and the Spigola alla Erbe Di Campo (sea bass) for Secondi. They were cooked perfectly. Service is excellent. ||4. There are a lot of spaces to relax around the hotel. On the main level, there is a huge lounge off of the lobby. The Olive Trees Bar is inside the room and opens as the terrace bar is closing down, around 17:00. We loved this space and relaxed here in between our trips to town and other places, as well as for a Limoncello at the end of the night. We did round two of Limoncello on our bedroom terrace. Apparently, we have a Limoncello problem. ||There is a smaller TV lounge off the other side of the lobby, with a small station to access the internet and a laser printer. ||A few steps down from the lobby below the TV lounge is the entrance to an enormous , multi-level deck with couches, chairs, tables, and umbrellas. There are places to be social or nooks and crannies for more privacy. The deck also has more gorgeous views of the city and water. If you're sensing every place at GHC has a great view, you would be right. Only a few rooms on lower levels do not have views). ||5. The Pools. There are five of them, as advertised. They are beautiful and there are chairs everywhere to get your tan on. Bar service is available and very efficient. The water is NOT heated. We were here in early May, and it was cold. Better in the afternoon, but not much (of course, we are from Texas USA, so we are spoiled with hotter water in the Gulf of whatever it is being called these days). ||6. Parking is available on site just across the street. We did not have a car. ||The hotel is in excellent condition all around. It is well-appointed in every space, and it seems as if they are constantly cleaning. Very helpful front desk staff. They can arrange anything for you. We can't wait for our next trip to Sorrento. It is a fun town to visit and is also convenient as a jumping off spot for Amalfi Coast...
Read moreLovely hotel and close (walkable and relatively flat) to city center-rooms are well appointed and service was very helpful. Staff were very helpful and patient with planning excursions (for 5 people) and providing transfers, towels, directions, recommendations, etc. There is one pool—it has five levels so does have some spots that are a bit more private than everyone hanging around the edges! It is a walk from the main building of the hotel, has bar and towel service and a restaurant poolside-note that the pool closes at 7pm. Not sure if this is accessible for persons with mobility issues—there are a few flights of stairs to climb to get to the pool.|We had a junior suite which was quite spacious and a nice balcony with a partial sea view. Comfortable King bed with premium linens-not the brick mattresses you find in Europe at other hotels. The balcony is over a fairly busy street but it’s Europe and what you may expect in an area like Sorrento. Second room was a regular room, much smaller, clean, with a garden view and a small balcony. Entire property is quiet in the evening which is nice. All in all, lovely place and great stay—it is a luxury tourist hotel—the staff spoke multiple languages and communication was easy with everyone there. Another treat was that the A/C in your room continues to work without having to put your room key in! Do not leave the balcony door open or unlocked because it will not work if you do. You will only get one key to your room and you have to plug it in for the electricity. You can leave your key at the front desk if multiple people need access to the room. |The only thing that left me less than impressed was the food—breakfast was very much an American “Sysco” breakfast even though it was plentiful—an omelette station was the extent of customization. We had lunch by the pool one day and it left much to be desired as well. Overall, a lovely stay but you will find off property food options better. Sorrento caters to tourists—from hotels to restaurants to shopping—it is what the locals do to be able to live in such a beautiful place year round. The enter area is relatively expensive but you also expect that when traveling there. There are a few hidden gems in the area worth exploring if you’re willing to get off the beaten path—Bagni Della Regina Giovanna on the edge of town is totally worth the trip and the walk down and climb out. Take a boat to see the area from the water—totally different perspective and the water is amazing-have them take you to the different grottos nearby not just to Capri. Check out the Sunset view from the street above La Colonna Sunset Bar via Aniello Califano….no reservation needed to view from there and it’s free. Not too many free things in Europe but the views and experience are worth the hassles! Another tip—do not pack just for the temperature—when they say bring a hat and sunscreen, believe them. The sun is brutal and relentless—little shade as well and already very hot this...
