We were a little anxious when booking this hotel based on some of the reviews but we were instantly relieved as soon as arrived! It exceeded our expectations by the beautiful pool area and reception alone. ||The staff are pleasant and polite, (perhaps not as openly friendly as other hotels) but this didnāt faze us. Yes the hotel is a bit rough rough around the edges, but itās also truly unlike anywhere weāve stayed before and is perfectly authentic to its surroundings. ||Breakfast was lovely, every morning there were hot and cold choices, fresh scrambled eggs, prosciutto, yoghurts, cakes, even smoked salmon. Itās the same food every day but was healthy and delicious. Top tip: eat your breakfast inside due to nuisance pidgeons and wasps. The staff do their best to shoo the birds away but often they got the better of guests swopping food off plates, so donāt leave the table unattended or even slightly take your eye off your plate - this was an unfortunate part of the breakfast experience most mornings so we only did this once and then preferred to eat inside in peace. ||We chose the deluxe room and was delighted with the size of the bed and balcony! The only consideration is that these balcony's donāt have a roof so be aware thereās no shade. However the views of Etna and the city at night are spectacular. We could even hear opera playing from the local gardens one night. Very romantic, and so peaceful. ||A couple of things on the room: |- The aircon is incredibly loud, bring ear plugs if you like to sleep with it on ||- We did experience one issue where we lost our water supply in the room, this was fortunately resolved after a few hours, but it created a new problem where the toilet would continuously flush. This was very noisy throughout the night and took 2 days to resolve and the staff were quite laid back about this despite us reporting it twice, which was frustrating as it disrupted our sleep, but again canāt be helped for an older hotel.||- Spa facilities were out of service but the weather was so hot anyway we werenāt worried. We did jump in the jacuzzi briefly which is in a lovely tucked away spot. It was unfortunately very chlorine heavy and made our eyes sore so it was short lived. ||The pool area is so pretty and youāll never need to worry about getting a sunbed, there are plenty and they have these fab little sunshades you can extend over the top of you - which youāll definitely need if you go in July! Very hot. ||Toarmina and all its wonderul restaurants bars and shops are all within walking distance (some uphill so take water!) so location is perfect. Youāll find plenty to do and see - and eat! ||Late check out is available at a cost (ā¬60 we were told) but instead there is a lovely shower on the 1st floor you can use right up until you leave, and you can leave your luggage in a side room and use the hotel facilities all day which was very kind of the staff. ||Overall, this is such a peaceful beautiful place to stay. If you have extremely high expectations on service and interiors etc, youāll have to adjust them slightly and simply appreciate the hotel for all of its unique, laid back charm. ||Would most definitely recommend. Thanks...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was completely charmed by this hotel and must have had an entirely different experience to the negative reviews. Here are some of the highlights for me:||- the style and location of the hotel are incredible. The building is beautiful if you want a taste of Italian style and you have a view of the coast and the mountain just from sitting at breakfast or whilst sunbathing (or from a Seaview room)||- the location is also fantastic. I jumped on the bus from the airport and it takes you practically right to the hotel (200 meters) and cost ā¬6, or pay a taxi for ā¬100! The bus whizzes along the sea and is part of the fun. As a solo traveler I enjoyed very much being able to come back to the hotel in the daytime if I had been out on an excursion in Taormina old town as it is right next to everything (5-10 minute walk)||- I stayed in room 115 in the new deluxe room, I had a massive double bed, Aircon that worked all the time keeping it cool and a walk in shower. My wardrobe lit up when I opened it and the charging ports had USB built in. I just drank the tap water and kept it in the fridge which was great. I also had a flat screen TV and I just watched my favourite shows on YouTube. The only comment was the pillow was too high for me.||- The pool is cleaned daily with a robotic machine that collects the dirt from the bottom. Maybe the comments from other reviews are from the out of season time or they have recently purchased this cleaning device - not sure. I didnāt use the sauna facilities but front desk said you could use them any time. ||- the staff were so friendly and helpful speaking great English. I think the bad reviews come from not understanding Sicilian culture - there is a wide spread attitude of laid back and relaxed nature to Sicilians and you have to lean into it! ||- the breakfast again was tasty serving hot scrambled eggs and ābaconā (prosciutto) and then continental hams, cheese, tomato, yoghurt, fruit, bakery goods. There are a lot of cakes but again this is a reflection of Sicilian culture. They are known for cakes - try them! You can also have lunch here and I had a tomato pasta which hit the spot||- overall, I have never stayed in such a beautiful hotel with unmatchable views in such a convenient location so for me, it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy 60th Birthday we chose The Park hotel for its views , and Old traditional look with the bonus of being so close to the centre. We were given a spacious room with a beautiful view over looking pool , sea and Etna The room was clean , but wall paper lifting on edges and could do with tidying up and a fresh paint job. But bed was comfortable and rooms were kept so clean and fresh towels everyday. Bathroom reasonable size , with a very powerful shower. But there were a few issues with pipe noise when toilet was flushed, and smells that weren't pleasant. We also woke up to a flooded floor one day with a leak from the ceiling, but this was sorted by the time we came back from being out during day. I was disappointed that we had no apology, or even the offer of a free drink . When we booked hotel they had asked if there's any special requests, and holiday rep said it was my 60th , but we didn't have anything special offered when we arrived, nor a reply to an email asking to book a table for evening food. But we gathered they don't do evening meals when we got there. . Breakfast was OK. Cereal, scrambled eggs and thin bacon , but this disappeared quickly, they also had lots of cakes , meats and cheese . Swimming pool great . Location perfect, above road but has a lift for those carrying cases or can't manage steps and steep driveway. Staff polite, but quite. The people who work here are hard workers that's without doubt. Deliveries do arrive early hours of morning and woke ius up around 4 /5 am a few times , but I guess this can't be helped. For us this was a nice hotel, that could be even better with room re decorated, and when things go wrong, or someone's special occasion a bit more effort made. Bottle of wine ect , would make al the difference especially in writing reviews. |Plus side are the views amazing, park opposite beautiful and in central position. Taormina is beautiful, take plenty of money, as its expensive. But watching Etna eruption on my Birthday made it special!...
