Stop Looking..... This is the place to stay
I would give Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo 10 stars if I could. My husband and I and our adult daughter and her friend spent 2 wonderful nights at Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo. When we arrived and were checking in we accidently dropped 2 full bottles of wine. They broke and there was wine and glass everywhere (thankfully white wine). Our grand entrance! We were so embarrassed yet the kind gentleman checking us in was more concerned that we had lost 2 bottles of wine vs. the mess we had made. We offered to help clean up but he insisted on showing us to our rooms and he took care of the spillage. He was also worried about the 2 postcards that got wet and dried them for us. At that moment we knew we had made the right choice of hotels as we prefer smaller boutique hotels or B&B's. He showed us to our rooms and they were immaculately clean and beautifully decorated in true Venetian style. My husband and I had a room with a balcony that overlooked a small canal and the other room had a huge terrace overlooking a garden. The hotel is situated in a very quiet location, only a short 10 to 15 minute walk to the Rialto Bridge or Saint Mark's square. There is also a plaza very near with many great restaurants. It is very easy to get there by taking the water bus. We turned in our rental car at Piazzale Roma, walked across the street and took the #1 water bus to San Stae which was only 3 or 4 stops away. We got off the boat and walked straight for about 50 meters and there was the hotel on our left. It is also very easy to get to the airport from San Stae using the water bus. They are extremely Covid conscious as they have specially designed air filters in every room. The breakfast and staff are amazing. They greet you with a smile and because of Covid they actually ask you what you want from the buffet (which is delicious) and they fill your plate for you so people are not crowded in. Another lovely woman takes your coffee order and brings it to you. They have a gorgeous patio outside or you can choose to sit inside if it is too cool. All the hotel staff that we encountered were so professional and very kind. Always happy to provide directions or answer any question you might have. One gentleman even called a pharmacy for us to see if they were still open. This is the kind of service you get in a smaller hotel. They also have an attendant on duty 24/7 and have you leave your key each time you go out so it makes you feel very safe. It was our favorite place out of the 14 different places we stayed on our month-long trip throughout Italy and Switzerland. Stay here, you won't be disappointed. Sandro and Walter do an amazing job to make sure you have a wonderful visit while in Venice. We hope to return in the future and we would only stay at Hotel Al...
Read moreOur party of six - two families - stayed here for two nights. My family of four (including our two adult daughters) stayed in the Junior Suite with two extra beds (as seen in photos) on the first floor of the main building. We anticipated a cramped situation, but we had ample space and storage. The family of two stayed in a Double Standard room in the adjacent building. They didn’t mind at all having to pop out of their building to come for breakfast. We all appreciated the Venetian charm - exposed beams, glass chandeliers, terrazzo flooring, traditional furniture - and quiet, yet accessible location. The bathrooms were well equipped with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. The mattresses were a bit too firm for our liking, but we recognize this to be a personal preference. However, the sofa bed made-up for one of my daughters was found to be softer and very comfortable. The pillows were too flat for two of us, but housekeeping remedied this by bringing extra pillows. Each evening, we were asked to specify our requested breakfast time due to limited dining space and needing to stagger guests. Both mornings were a bit hectic upon arrival, however, which surprised me. I thought that by specifying our dining time a table would be ready. What potentially could make this better would be to provide each party with a set departure time, so tables could be prepped for the next seating, but I would guess this is less of an issue for a smaller party. Once a table was organized and we were seated, everything was delightful and smooth. The breakfast staff were chipper and hard-working. They took care of drink orders, but breakfast was self-serve; it consisted of items such as small pastries, deli meats, cheese, yoghurt, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, and roasted tomatoes - all very well prepared and laid out. We particularly enjoyed eating in the courtyard our second morning. The front desk was always staffed with helpful and accommodating personnel. The hotel’s website lists this as a three-star, while it is listed as a two-star on Trip Advisor. Either way, Al Ponte Mocenigo provides spacious, clean rooms in a quiet environment, in close proximity to transportation and all attractions, offering excellent value for a...
Read moreWe stayed here for 2 nights. Hotel is a walk from the train station. Lots of dodging people and stairs if you choose this means of getting to the hotel. Hotel overall was fine. Breakfast is good and you have the option to eat in the courtyard garden. Hotel in general smells like sewage. Although Venice in general smells of sewage as well. Tv in room is very small. Toiletries such as shower caps, shampoo, lotion, and soap are given. Shower is great. Location is great as you are far from crowds. Called them to give them a heads up that I would be checking out at 6 am around 10:20 pm the night prior. According to them it would be best to close the account at that time in person because it required a “two man job.” Went to settle account with what took probably 5 minutes; plus only one person in lobby checked me out. Could’ve easily been done in the morning. It slipped my mind that the city tax needed to be paid in cash. Staff seemed annoyed that I did not have cash but ultimately let me pay for it with a card. Take cash to pay for it! I would suggest to have check in staff remind at this point as I booked hotel a few months ago and did not even receive a reminder of this requirement prior to check in. Instead, I searched for email confirmation that was...
