The ocean view from Room 31, along with access to the semi-private balcony, is likely one of the best in Vernazza. As promised, Gian met us at the train station and helped carry our bags a short distance through the village and up what felt like 300 steps along narrow, winding stone paths that have clearly stood for centuries. The room was comfortable, the bed cozy, and we enjoyed a peaceful two-night stay.||That said, at over $550 USD per night, the experience fell short of expectations—largely due to the attitude of our host, Gian. While he did provide a lovely room, he showed little interest in our presence or experience, offering minimal hospitality throughout our stay. With only four rooms in such a stunning location, he seems to rely entirely on the setting to justify the price, and unfortunately, his aloofness detracted from what could have been a standout experience. If we were to rate him as a host, it would be a one. At rates comparable to luxury hotels like the Ritz-Carlton, a touch of warmth or personal connection would have gone a long way.||Additionally, the listing mentioned a private boat ride was included with the stay—but this never materialized.||Vernazza itself is a spectacular town. During the day, it becomes very crowded—an expected reality due to its popularity—but in the evening, after the cruise ship crowds and day-trippers leave, the town transforms. It feels like a scene from a movie, quiet and enchanting, as if we had Vernazza all to ourselves.||Dining was a highlight. On our first night, we had a lovely meal at Ristorante Gambero Rosso. The following evening, we dined at Ristorante Belforte, which turned out to be one of the best meals of our entire journey through...

My wife and I loved this B&B and had the best room in the house (no 31). It was a spacious room on the top with a breathtaking view (see my attached photos). It's all modernized inside and very comfortable and cleane. There is a common terrace right below the room we were in which is just lovely! We stayed two nights which we felt was the perfect amount of time to be in Cinque Terre.
The owner (Gian) met us at the rail station and carried our luggage (pack light!) to the apartment (this is a big deal as we ascended many, many stone steps to get to our front door, which is typical for Vernazza).
They do not serve breakfast on premises, but they do partner with two restaurants in the village that provides you basic breakfast, as part of your room rate.
The service was non-existent other than the daily cleaning - you can basically call someone using their phone to ask for advice.
Book restaurants ahead - Belforte (highly recommended) is in a tower overlooking the sea - ask for a table outside on the balcony above the sea. I also recommend the 2 hour hike from Vernazza to Monterosso. Start early in the morning when it is hot!
All in all a beautiful B&B, very comfortable with AC, wireless, modern bathrooms, etc. I would only avoid this accommodation if you struggle with stairs as there are about 100 up to the room from the street.

Read moreLa Mala was one of our favourite rooms we stayed in this summer. We stayed in Room 31 and it was perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 children. The children had their own beds (not a fold-out), and everything was clean, comfortable and modern. The room has the most incredible view over the sea, and the windows open allowing you to fall asleep at night listening to the waves on the rocks below. The shared terrace made for a beautiful spot to enjoy a take-away breakfast before our busy day of hiking began. There was also a small clothes line outside the bathroom window which was great for drying swimwear so it could be ready for the next day.|Our host, Gian was also so helpful with any requests, and was able to secure us a last minute boat for the afternoon which our children rate as the best part of the trip! Our captain Lorenzo took us to some great spots where they could jump off cliffs into the water, swim in caves and see some of the beautiful coastline. |La Mala is located in a great location in Vernazza (albeit up about 60 stairs) but Gian was very helpful in helping get our suitcases to and from the room. We also loved that we could see Vernazza before all the crowds arrived for the day, and enjoy some of the great restaurants it...
