like all the ports in the Cinque Terre towns, the harbor is very small. finding the spot where you can buy tickets and board the boat is not obvious . the time schedule changes frequently during the year fewer departure times in the spring and more in the summer. another issue is weather. the boat service will not run when the sea is too choppy, but there is no easy way to find out beforehand. the trip itself goes between Levanto in the north to Portovenere. most tourists just use it between the five official Cinque Terre towns. just to see the view from the sea. it can get crowded just like the trains that run through the area, so pack...

Best of the five towns without a doubt! Of course that also means it's the most popular so it is jammed in peak season. Even in late September it's very full and getting on and off the regional train can be quite a challenge if you have bags and are over 50! We stayed in a wonderful vacation rental on the third floor directly over the square. It couldn't have been better. Bedroom full kitchen living room bathroom and view to die for.
