From the moment we met Bartolomeo we knew it was going to be an amazing experience! It was definitely a highlight of our week spent in Cinque Terre. Bartolomeo met us in town and escorted us to his vineyard where he gave us a beautiful tour, interesting facts and history of how this vineyard has been in his family for hundreds of years and what makes his grapes so unique. Also, Bartolomeo attributes so much of his success to his loving wife who has helped him through the years. After our hike through the vertical vineyard he took us to his tasting room which overlooked the vineyard and had us try his 3 whites, 1 red and his famous Sciacchetrà. With each pour he gave us the details of the production and allowed us to savor the visuals, the smells and taste of each. Even our 16 year old son thoroughly enjoyed this experience and learned so much from Bartolomeo that he wrote his own review. I can’t leave out that we purchased a bottle of every wine we tasted and 2 bottles of Sciacchetrà. An added bonus, 4 days later as we were walking in Vernazza we saw Bartolomeo and it was like seeing an old friend. We embraced with the traditional Italian 1 kiss on each cheek and chatted a bit in the square. What a treat to see him again before we left! We will never forget our time...
Read moreMy husband and I had a great time visiting Cantina Cheo! We just happened to stop into the tasting room because we saw the sign on the hill. Barto was very welcoming and pointed out one of his vineyards you could see across the street. He explained some of his processes and bits about the wine production in the area. He also told us about his family’s history in wine making and Vernazza! It was very fascinating and the wine was absolutely wonderful! We really felt at home in Barto’s place. His wife makes wonderful paintings and has a studio downstairs from the tasting area. We purchased one of her originals to take home! Unfortunately, she was not there the day we visited, but we had Barto take our picture with her painting so she would know which one we got! We will have forever memories from that place and hopefully can...
Read moreWe did the private winery tour and tasting and had the absolute best time! We learned so much not only about Cheo wine but about Cinque Terre, the history, and the popularization. Bartolomeo spent hours with us in the tasting patio talking about his family’s 500 year history of wine making, how it has changed with the times, and his family’s role in keeping wine making alive as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Truly one of if not THE best thing we did during our Cinque Terre vacation! We also learned about the importance of the local businesses selling local products to keep the culture of the area alive so even if you can’t do the tour, consider...
