The service at this place is not simply “bad”. At the Ananasso Bar, the waiters are not slow, they are downright nasty. We ordered a cappuccino here to perk up after a long day. We are very aware that this action already draws judgement from the Italians, who make fun of many aspects of American culture. For whatever reason, the wait staff decided they didn’t like us as soon as we sat down (maybe because we were hot after a long day, had a baby with us, didn’t order alcohol, or were not dressed right? Who knows…) When I receive my cappuccino, I am surprised to see that it has the Italian word “basta” written on the foam very clearly and carefully in chocolate sauce. Someone had clearly put in some effort. Our waitress, and another waitress next to her were giggling when they delivered it. Since when do Italians put chocolate sauce on cappuccinos? I have been to this country over 10 times. No one else in our party who ordered cappuccinos had chocolate sauce or any kind of latte art on their drinks. When we asked why there was a word written in chocolate sauce on a cappuccino our waitress giggles and says “it’s just something that our barista does sometimes.” Right off the bat it was very clear that this was some sort of insult to us. We tried to get her to explain what this meant and she said it was a joke. She would not translate the word or explain the joke even though we pressed her. Finally, she admits that the word means “stop” in Italian and she starts to look uncomfortable. At this point, I know I am not going to drink this cappuccino. We send the drink back and the waitress looks sheepish. We ask another waitress about the “basta” on the cappuccino and she repeats the same story as the first waitress. “It is a joke.” We again press for them to explain why it is funny and she too looks uncomfortable and sheepish. Later on, after researching this word and it’s use in Italian culture, it is clear that this is a word primarily used when someone is annoying. I think it is just so gross that these wait staff would use a language barrier to “slyly” insult their customer. The idea of me sipping a cappuccino that declared me annoying in bold letters really just tickled them. They took the trouble to carefully execute this juvenile plan and I am left feeling like I have engaged with some high school bullies rather than a professional wait staff. How embarrassing for this establishment. Shame on these women. Many Europeans seem to think it is enjoyable to look down on Americans, and yet we still decide to visit their countries, give them our money, and keep their businesses afloat. We glorify their culture and don’t make a peep when they laugh at ours. It’s moments like this that make me so thankful for our American “customer first” attitude. Believe me, you will NOT find it (or any common...
Read moreWe got there and ordered four Aperol spritz and two pizzas for a party of four. 1 hour later, we had gotten our Aperols and no pizzas only to have the waiter come and tell us that he had indeed not even sent our order, and that we were not getting our pizzas. We had waited for an hour only to walk away without having dinner. Instead of talking to the kitchen and admitting his mistake, the waiter told us that there was a “little problem”, because we wouldn’t get the pizzas we had ordered an hour ago. Honestly, the pizzas can be amazing, but of theres no good service or response from the restaurant, there is nothing. DO NOT COME HERE. I would not recommend, we had to go looking for dinner at 10:00 pm. Terrible service, and we couldn’t even...
Read moreWe didn’t even get the chance to eat here the service was so appalling. One waitress, who was pale of average height and with Mousey brown hair was just too horrifically bad. She was rude, dismissive, and laughed when we left because her service was so bad. While she did seem young she also knew exactly what she was doing. She rolled her eyes at me when I asked for a table and left us without chairs for the longest time, thinking it was funny we had to stand? My one regret is that I didn’t get her name so I could call her out directly but if you come here and see a girl which matches her description the avoid this girl at all costs. Literally at all costs. The business would thrive...
