Our stay was June and we were the only guest that night, so obviously our experience would be different from that during the peak time, presumably, August. We got to occupy not only whole room to ourselves, but the hot spring bath as well. So lucky! ||||The building was aged but traditional architecture added some woomph. Every corner of this facility was spanking clean, and I really appreciated that. AC was powerful and my husband really appreciated that. We brought in pre-purchased convenience-store food to the kitchen area and ate while checking emails and things, using their free Wi-Fi. I don’t remember whether if we noticed TV monitor... we didn’t need or cared anyway. Futon (a set of mattress, pillow, comforter that you set up on tatami floor) was of high end, sheets and covers are freshly laundered. It was very quiet at night. We enjoyed comfortable rest. ||||The only regret is the distance from the nearest station. We drag our suitcases for about 10 minutes, then we had to cross the major highway only by using a dumpy underground tunnel with no elevator. The location is right by the water but the access to harbor was blocked off for some construction. We ate hot breakfast at nearby Gusto which is about 5 minutes walk.||||The front desk manager was extremely helpful and personarable. He is trilingual; Japanese, English, and Sinhalese. Check-out was quick and efficient.||||In summary, Matsukiso offers clean, cool, and comfy experience....

First we stayed in one of the indoor camping tents where we had a much better night than we thought we would have( the room has two big aircons and also a window you can open)
Upon arrival we were welcomed very kindly by the owner/manager. We decided to stay two more nights and got an upgrade to a Japanese style private room with lots of space that we really enjoyed ☺️
The whole hotel, including the toilets, the rooms, lobby and also the onsen were always clean and neat. The use of the onsen is free. There is also a little kitchen area with basic equipment ( microwave, grill/toaster, hot water) and tables to eat and hang out. All in all a very sweet place 🫠
The owner told us that he always tries to update the room if possible to get good reviews. to us that seemed very legit and not as an act to make us forget about some downsides the place might have! as mentioned, everything was clean and in good...
Read moreONSEN review: entrance ¥300 (free if you are staying at the guesthouse). No parking for the onsen goers. Free lockers (¥100 which you get back) at the reception where you pay and you can get your onsen stamp as well. Shampoos are provided, you need to bring your own towel, you can't see your clothes while bathing. The tub was quite big, could easily fit six people in, there was good water flow and temperature, you will feel your skin shining after the bath. Six showers to wash up and hairdryers at the changing room. Went on a Saturday mid-afternoon and bathed completely alone for like half an hour. The onsen facilities were really clean, only the mats at the changing room were a bit dirty. Was a really relaxing bath,...
