Where do I start? Ah right, first things first, this is a clean freak speaking. Sharing showers, toilets, common areas and some other things is pretty difficult for some of us, coming from someone working in the service industry, I have learned to tolerate, live with and do not let it trouble me so much (although I find people in general to be filthy). K's House surprised me about how strict they were with the cleaning from the very moment my wife and I arrived. For instance, there are cleaning hours were you can not take a shower due to cleaning, reading that made me so happy! The first night we went grocery shopping but we were so tired from all our walking that day that we went to bed with kind of empty stomachs. We cooked us a beautiful meal the next day, there are frying pans, pots, toasters, a rice cooker, cutlery, free instant coffee and tea (just be sure to wash everything you use before and after!) . The common areas are thoroughly cleaned everyday which made me feel at ease as my wife and I stayed there chatting with a guy we met. Sadly for us, it heavy rained during most of our stay. Fortunately, the early morning of our last day, it cleared out and we were able to finally see the star of the trip, Fuji-san. We do recommend to rent their bikes for an early morning ride for only ¥500 from 20h00 - 8h00 (late night early morning fee), ¥200 per hour for the old bike and ¥300 per hour for the new bike from 8h00. The difference between the old and new bikes are the time when they were purchased. We picked the new ones (the day before since reception closes at 20h00) for an early morning use until 10h of the following day, in total ¥500 (early morning fee) x 2 + ¥300 (new bike per hour fee) x 2 for a total of ¥2200 for 2 people. This is actually very cheap if you feel like having a late night or early morning ride since you would be paying only ¥500 from 20h00-8h00! We left at around 5h00, visited the Pagoda, the Kawaguchi Asama Shrine (a real must visit, personally I enjoyed it more than seeing the Fuji mountain) and some other hidden pearls, we were very very satisfied of our 25km ride and 5km walk right before leaving.
TL;DR K's House is a very beautifully located and clean hostel ready to welcome you all! Cheap bikes to visit around and not only an amazing staff but they also speak...
Read moreThe location in terms of Fuji itself is excellent and we were lucky enough to get a fantastic view of the Mountain from our room and the viewing platform (although it should be noted that this is EXTREMELY weather dependant of course). The hostel is a about a 15 minute walk from the train station although if you are travelling with suitcases I would STRONGLY recommend getting a taxi as the roads are not suited for the small wheels. The hostel arranged a taxi for us on our trip back to the train station which cost around 700 yen (April 2024).||The facilities were well maintained and always kept clean. The Kitchen and shared living space was always well equipped during our stay. If you do not have a private toilet you should be aware that there is only 1 male and 2 female toilets on the 1st floor and 2 sinks so this can get quite busy at times. |The rooms have the usual essentials but the Tatami mats are quite thin so if you are not a fan of these then you may want to consider choosing an alternative bedding if possible. ||Staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. Most speak English or can arrange for some kind of translation if you do not speak much Japanese.||If you are staying on the 1st floor of the hostel, be aware that there is no lift so large suitcases or baggage can be a bit of a challenge but the hostel does offer luggage...
