I was a bit apprehensive about staying in a capsule hotel as I expected some kind of hostel with capsules instead of dormitories. However it was an experience that I wanted to have as part of a trip to Japan so I booked in for one night at this hotel. And what an experience it was! The hotel is well located, about 5 minutes from Osaka station but a bit tricky to find on the initial visit. However we did find it with some friendly local advice. Check-in is on the fourth floor where you are given a key to a locker (which just about takes in a medium sized rucksack), and a gown to wear in the hotel. ||The capsule was surprisingly roomy and not at all claustrophobic as I had feared, and it included a small television set. The common space included sofas to watch television and a bar/restaurant and everything was spotlessly clean. As part of the price of the stay we had access to a whole complex of saunas, steam rooms, a swimming pool, tubs of hot, warm or cold water, jacuzzi, showering area, preening area with all manner of gels and lotions and a plentiful supply of small towels spread over four floors. As in the hotel itself, everything was immaculately clean. There were various types of massages or a sunbed available for an extra charge. This sauna area was open virtually round the clock. ||You don't need any toiletries with you in the hotel as everything is provided but bizarrely you had to pay 200 yen for a shower in the hotel part of the building (even though there was a whole complex of washing facilities available downstairs). It had an atmosphere of a gentlemen's club with men of all ages just relaxing in the common area. The capsule was quite comfortable to sleep in and I had a good night's sleep but it is fair to point out the it wasn't a busy night as most of the capsules were empty. ||This was certainly a great experience and it was one I would thoroughly recommend that any male visitors should do (sorry ladies, but you are barred from this one) and the price is great value when you consider all that's available in the spa complex. It changed my mind completely about staying in a capsule hotel and I would have no hesitation in returning to this one and staying for more than one night in future. I would certainly recommend the real thing experience that this hotel offers rather than the quasi capsule experience aimed at tourists that are offered in...

Read moreFirst of all some women attacked me for wearing the slippers over the line before I’d even checked in and shouted in my face in Japanese. Luckily the front desk staff (all 350 of them) were more laid back and mentioned that you don’t wear the slippers inside. After my interrogation about what tattoos I have, i checked in and found a capsule - not my bed but a time capsule into the 1980s. This hotel has genuinely not been refurbished since then, the carpet is all torn and the capsules feel like you’re on the mission to Mars ride. I’d just come from the lovely hotel to this place, and counted my blessings that I was only here one night. I’m not a fussy traveller, and have stayed in many dumps, but this is the worst capsule hotel I’ve seen. Front desk staff were always very kind helpful and spoke in English when I couldn’t say what I needed to in Japanese, but the women who lost her head with me left a bad taste in my mouth.||What I can only assume were faulty Alarms were going off all night from cabins that Weren’t even occupied, luckily other guests seemed to have some rota system as to who’s turn it was to turn it off.||The pillow is essentially a Bean bag, and the same size as one and feels like one.||My capsule is full of temporary fixes and patches, not to mention the see through privacy cover.||The spa is strictly no tattoos which is very conveniently told after you’ve checked in. There’s no other showers so you have to use the spa one. It’s not like some spas were I can hide in the corner have a quick shower then leave, you’re on display to everyone, and so my tattoos would have been to. I guess this is a Japanese thing but it bugs me when I can’t have a shower.||I would actually recommend someone to spend an extra couple thousand yen and book somewhere better...
