Firstly, it was not that near Ueno station and we got out of the wrong exit because the station staff directed us wrongly. It was still about 15 min walk from Ueno and 25 mins to the Keisei airport liner and Ameyoko market. ||||The staff lady was a bit cold, but she did the necessary efficiently, letting us leave our baggage till time to check in etc. We had to enquire about the different aspects of the hotel (eg choosing of pillows etc) before she explained. ||||So my advice is to carefully read any bits of english you see. Some bits are in Japanese, so just ask for it as per my review below.||||BUT their saving grace are the facilities and the general slant of the hotel to incentivise eco-friendly behaviour! Since i'm all for eco-friendly anyway, i was pleasantly surprised by the gifts i got. I get to go eco-friendly and get gifts! WIN-WIN! ||||So what happened was we checked in and got to pick our pillow hardness from the shelf of different colored pillows (while stocks last). But we also had to lug it up to the hotel room. ||||Then she presented us with one basket of tester packets with creams, cleansing oil or hair treatment (only for ladies) which we can pick 5 different kinds of per night. I got 10 for 2 nights. Already impressed... ||||After we went up, we saw a sign that let us choose not to get our bed made, which meant that we got a reusable bag with the day's new towels and a free bottle of water.||||When we were checking out, we gave them back the toothbrushes in the room and they presented us with a basket of snacks to choose from. One snack per unopened toothbrush. I chose prawn crackers and a packet of chips.||||And finally they asked us to fill in the satisfaction survey and presented us with yet another basket, asking us to pick 2 items (i picked seed packets for small white japanese flowers and a sweet or something) ||||I dunno if i'm weird or what but it was super fun picking stuff out! I'm a total gachapon addict so this worked on me. ||||Room is clean. Small but works. Bathroom was very cramped though, not designed as well as other hotels i;ve stayed in with bathrooms of the same size. But most importantly, it's clean. I always read reviews for cleanliness, but sometimes it's not stated, so i just want to reassure you. ||||Free laundry pressing machines available for you to use and a free breakfast. Easily the best free hotel breakfast i've had in Japan across my 6 hotels. HAHA. ||||If distance is an issue or you're in a huge rush, probably want to try another hotel. Otherwise, do try this hotel. You'll be doing yourself and the eco-friendly...
Read moreThis is not a bad hotel. However, it must be said that it is geared for the local business traveler on a budget and not for the tourist, though most of the guests are foreign tourists. The location is in a quiet area not far from a major transport hub and entertainment area. The immediate area has Chinese, Japanese and French restaurants as well as a couple of convenience stores. However, the room is miniscule and seem to be fit for midgets. Realistically, it fits only one person with small hand luggage or briefcase. There is simply no space for a normal-size bag; neither is there space to actually stand up and walk. The bathroom is closet-size. Having said that, the hotel has good things. The bathroom has good quality shower liquid, shampoo and conditioner, as well as a soaking tub, albeit tiny. The room has an air freshener, TV, small fridge, small writing area, small clock, 3 clothes hangers on the wall (no closet) and hair dryer. Temperature control is good and lighting is adequate, though it would be good to have a dedicated bedside light. Breakfast is good and filling – Japanese style only, with a change in the type of fish every 3 days. However, the space for breakfast is tiny and it is always congested and difficult to get a seat. Staff are friendly, polite and helpful. There is a coin-operated washer and dryer. Another major weakness is that check in is after 3 pm and check out before 10 am. The hotel is “closed” from 10 am to 3 pm, and one cannot leave luggage if...
