I had planned to fly from Hiroshima to Haneda the afternoon before I was due to fly home and wanted to stay near the airport for an easy transition in the morning, so I selected this hotel and was so glad I did. Flying domestically, I arrived at Terminal 1 so had to transit to Terminal 3 (the international Terminal) in order to get to the hotel. This is easily done using the monorail that connects the terminals. I believe it was just one stop. I got off at Terminal 3 and followed the sign post directions to the hotel. It’s a little bit of a walk, between 5-10 minutes but it’s not challenging in anyway. On the way you will pass lots of nice shops and displays. I checked in using the terminals which were super easy to use and understand. It’s worth noting that this is a very big hotel and when you receive your door card, you will be directed to a particular group of elevators that will take you to your room. These will be A, B, C, or D, but again this is clearly communicated.
As I was only staying for an evening I got a standard room with an Onsen pass (definitely worth doing). The room had everything I needed and was clean & very comfortable. 2 bottles of water were provided along with various amenities. There was also some hotel clothes and slippers which you can use to go to the Spa/Onsen.
I arrived around 20:30 so wanted to get some dinner. The area around the hotel has lots of shops including a Lawsons convenience store. The restaurants were all on the ground floor. (If memory serves, the hotel reception is on the 4th floor. I believe there is an elevator in reception that will take you to the ground floor but I used the various escalators.) There’s a good range of them, so no matter what you’re looking for, I’m sure you’ll find one that suits your needs. There is also a sports bar as well.
After dinner I wanted to use my Spa/Onsen ticket. There is a bit of a process to accessing the spa. If you’re staying at the hotel, it’s definitely worth using the provided clothes and slippers in your room. To access the spa you may need to go to level 6 and then use the Spa elevator (there are directions) to take you to level 12. When you arrive, take your slippers off and put them in one of the shoe lockers opposite the elevator to get your spa key which you use to buy things within the spa. Once you have it head to reception and they’ll set you up to use the spa. It worth noting first that if you want to use the hot stone saunas, you need to wear different clothes which you get when in the spa. These are ¥850 but worth the experience. Another thing worth noting is I didn’t see any free water in the spa, but there are the usual vending machines where you can buy various drinks using your spa key. The biggest item for most people though will be the Onsen. To sum it up, it’s big and busy. It’s provides a lot, including a sauna, a steam room, lots of wash areas, a cold bath, jacuzzis, and lots of hot baths of various temperature both in and outside. Even though it was busy, it never felt crowded. There’s lots of lockers and space in the changing room, and lots of room in the baths and wash areas, but it was by far the busiest Onsen I’ve been too. That being said, it was constantly being cleaned and maintained by staff and still well worth the visit. I will definitely use it again when I come back here. Another point of note is it is tattoo friendly. I have a few tattoos and didn’t have any issues, I also didn’t see any signs saying to cover them which was nice. That being said, it’s probably still worth being ready to cover them in case your experience differs from mine. The rest of the spa is essentially just rest areas which are very nice. When you’re finished you have to scan out using a terminal which basically allows you to pay or charge your room with anything you’ve purchased like drinks. You will also be given a QR code which you’ll need to exit the spa.
Overall, the spa experience was amazing, my room was exactly what I needed, and if you’re flying from Haneda, it’s the perfect place to stay before...
Read moreSTAY HERE YOUR FIRST NIGHT IF YOU’RE COMING FROM THE USA: we stayed here one evening Mar 16, 2025 with a group of 5. We also had another couple stay exactly 1 week later the day they arrived. Going off the groups’ census: everyone was generally happy with the stay. We also booked the room that included spa ticket and breakfast. Also, check in was half self/half assisted. They have machines to check you in but there are employees and a desk right next to them. They also do luggage storage for free!
WHY STAY HERE: this was our first time in Iapan, we were coming off a 17 hour travel (3 hrs/ 14hrs). When I tell you, getting off the plane, having to deal with customs and then baggage claim… there was nothing greater than being able to walk 5 min and check into your room. Villa Fontaine Grand is in Terminal 3 which is the same terminal the international flights land in. It was so nice! Place is crisp clean. Rooms were your basic business hotel style rooms. Nothing extra fancy but everything you needed. If you have to travel out of Tokyo the next day, you literally have the Keikyu line right in Terminal 3. It takes you directly to Shinagawa station. We were going to Kyoto the next morning. ALSO, you can get anything you could possibly need from Terminal 3. WiFi, train tickets, transit cards, Convenience store items, literally has an entire food court, shops, etc. So once we checked in, decompressed, we walked 5 min from the hotel lobby to the main area of Terminal 3 to get everything we needed.
SPA: I booked a head and foot massage treatment at the spa the day we arrived. I got in the same day, 3 hrs later for my treatment. They had a lot of people running the spa. Greeters, front desk, treatment desk, restroom workers, there was even a lady inside the bath area directing people. As someone doing their first ever hot spring experience, I greatly appreciated all the help and took the nerves out of it haha. I enjoyed my head massage. Foot massage wasn’t anything fancy. Could have skipped it. Bath area was very nice!! Sauna, steam room, indoor and outdoor baths. It was freezing outside so the outdoor bath felt so good. It overlooks the terminal, so you can watch the planes come in and out. Very unique experience. There was atleast 50 women in the bath areas while I was there & still so much room for everyone.
FOOD: breakfast was buffet style and a lot of variety. Fancy coffee machines by the drinks area. I would HIGHLY recommend selecting this option if you’re traveling early the next day. We had to be at the Shinagawa station by 9am that morning. We got to buffet when it opened at 6am. This took the stress out of having to worry about finding food at the train station (we didn’t want to chance it in case we got lost)
Overall: we will do this again on our next Japan trip. Even after spending 2 weeks in Japan, getting to stay in different hotels and a ryokan, I am glad we stayed there.
P.s you can book it via Booking.com if you want to save some $$ on the room.
I am giving 4 stars bc of the rooms. Again, nothing wrong with them they’re just small basic business rooms. Service I have 4 stars (bc we didn’t interact with a lot of people besides spa people) Location/amenities 5 stars...
Read moreThe Good: -Location - the convenience of being walkable to the terminal can't be beat -Noise - despite the proximity to the airport, we heard no planes at all -Convenient 24-hour rate option - being able to check in anytime and then check out 24 hours later was perfect since we had an evening flight
The Bad: -Despite the 24-hour rate that we booked, our keycards were deactivated at normal check out time so we got locked out. It took multiple staff a good 10-15 minutes to figure out how to fix it. To me, this means they're offering a great perk, but unsuccessfully. -Our rate included breakfast, but there's a big sign that says "The restaurant is very busy starting at 7:30am. You may have to wait 30 minutes or more for a table." So unless you plan to get up early, plan for a long wait. Can't comment on the food as we didn't make it in time. -The spa with onsen is great in theory, but trying to access it is like trying to escape a sci fi prison. Am I exaggerating? Yes. But honestly, not by much. Let me walk you through it: After taking 2 different elevators to get there, you come to a set of lockers for your shoes. What if you wore the slippers provided by the hotel you ask? Unclear for now. So you round the corner and come to a gate with no indication of how to open it. The secret is just walk forward and it opens automatically for everyone once you get real close. This takes you to the spa check-in counter, where you have to show them your spa ticket, then give them your room key and then give them your shoe locker key (I hope you grabbed one even if you didn't need one!). The staff will give you several pieces of receipt paper which you'll need later. Then you come to a series of kiosks. You probably won't realize this until after you wait in line at one, but you should ignore these for now. Instead, grab a towel and head into the crowded spa (don't worry if you grab the wrong size, someone will run after you and let you know). Once you're ready to leave, head for the gate that opened automatically before... except not this time! Remember those kiosks from earlier? Take one of your now soggy receipt papers to one and follow the prompts. You'll get ANOTHER little receipt paper with a QR code on it. Scan that at the gate and it will let you out so you can grab your shoes(?) and then find the 2 elevators that will get you back to your room. I recommend a drink at the bar downstairs to recover from all that...
