At the departure area, there is a weighing scale nearby counter J, beside a wrapping shop. There are also prayer rooms, wrapping services, luggage storage services, forwarding luggages services on the departure floor.
Not sure about other airlines, but the air asia queue was moving extremely slow. And I found out later why. The staff calculated the total weight for the bags manually like 10 times! It takes a bit more time for japanese staff to read the names on the passport (this is totally understandable). After taking time to put the boarding passes into each passport, the lady take the passes out again to write the full name of each passengers, by hand. Total time spend from lining up till the end was 1 hour 20 minutes despite having like 6 counters open. So please do arrive early if you would like some time to explore the airport.
They were quite strict. As i was lining up, multiple people were seen repacking their bags in front of the counter. A few counters also asked to see the passengers carry on bags! A staff even escorted a passenger to the luggage measurement place to proof that her luggage is too big to be a carry on bag.
A special note for those who brings stroller. If you want to push the stroller to the airplane door and keep it at the compartment above your head, you MUST have the stroller bag and it is count as 1 piece of carry on bag.
If you dont have the stroller bag, you must drop the stroller at the check in counter. The weight is not counted. But special case since my niece was sleeping in the stroller, the lady allow us to push the stroller until the boarding gate and they will collect it there and it is not counted as 1 piece of carry on (and you dont keep it at the compartment above your head).
As we were lining up for boarding, air asia staffs were going up and and down the queue making sure that there is only 2 piece carry on per person. If you are carrying your kids carry on, it is consider as your carry on piece. So if you are trying to make the most of your kids 7kg allocation, please be cautious as your kids might be forced to carry it themselves.
What i love about the airport is that the waiting area in front of the gates has charging stations everywhere. There are charging poles at all rows of seat. Unlike other airports where you have charging station at a specific area only. Now you can charge your electronics while waiting for boarding, not worry about leaving your luggages and seating...
Read moreThe airport is easy to get to using public transport. In the area prior to check-in, it has a few shops and restaurants. The shops are a bit expensive, but they do sell some nice souvenirs. There are a range of eateries. However, they close early, so on a late flight, there is little if no choice. There is an observation deck. You do not get to see much, but it will keep the children occupied outside All the shops on Tokyo Pop Town were closed. There is a currency exchange and a couple of shops for toiletries and snacks at the entrance to the monorail. Once through check-in, there is nothing to do. There are a few shops, but that is it. If you want small bottles of alcohol, avoid the duty-free shops at the entrance and head down towards gate 107. There is a cheaper shop there with a variety of small bottle choices. There is suitcase storage, but it was full by 11.30 and was only open between nine and five. There are some lockers in the toilets on the third floor, but there were only around four that held large suitcases. There was further storage in the arrivals level on floor two. Staff were polite and efficient. Customs were quick to get through. There are charging areas throughout the airport. Wi-fi in the precheck-in area was patchy and kept dropping out. Once through check-in, the wi-fi was strong. The terminal is fully accessible to people with a disability. There are lifts to all floors. There is a disability toilet that is designed for wheelchairs and people with ostomates. It has a nappy changing area in it. The main women's toilets were spacious and had grip rails round the toilets and at one...
Read moreSeriously the worst organized airport I visited so far. On my arrival it was a 2 hour queue on the passport control. There was a huge row of booths, but only 3 were working. When I finally managed to go through it, my luggage was already removed from the conveyor and no screens were showing my flight on them. When I tried to contact staff no one spoke english (in international terminal!). Somehow I managed to find it. After that I was like OK, maybe it's a oneoff. And guess what, right now I am staying in another huge queue on check in. It's 1 hour left till the departure and as far as I can see the half of the flight are still not checked in. The same picture I can observe on several other counters. Bravo! Have no idea who is the general manager of this place, but can definetely say that's not the role this person...
