unito light SHIMBASHI — Hotel in Tokyo

A little difficult to find when you first arrive (enter the office building next to the falafel restaurant and take the lift up) but it’s in a great location for exploring Tokyo. We liked that it was a little outside of the busy areas. Walking the streets around the hotel is peaceful and relaxing.

The place itself is very clean, but it is exactly as described, basically just a hostel with little to no room. There isn’t a kitchen (it’s a small eating area in a hallway) and you’ll spend most of your time stepping over bags and making way for people to pass.

The reception doesn’t have anyone there except for a couple of hours a day. Ren, who worked the days I was there was fantastic. Super friendly and super helpful with great English. However, for the most part you’ll find the desk empty. Check-in and check out are self service.

Most of the other people staying here were Japanese workers with a couple of travellers thrown in. Don’t stay here expecting to meet anyone to explore Tokyo with.

Great location. No staff even though it is supposed to be staffed between 4-7pm. Inconvenient for check-in to be so late. Quite disappointing there is no locker to put luggage, only tiny lockers, I only had a medium sized suitcase. The rooms, reception, work station and entry are all in the same room. The pictures of the hostel make it look more spacious than it is. I decided not to stay because I wanted to see the city in the evening and it was not safe to leave my luggage without...

宿泊のチェックインを前日にWEBで済ますというシステム設計、管理人が無人という営業形態上、スタッフのいない空白の時間は無法地帯です。

その日に予約した客が、初めて利用する場合は諦めて下さい。深夜の0時過ぎにオートロックのドアを開けられず、金属のドアを叩き続ける、、、中の宿泊客が対応を迫られる。 なぜなら、リモートの運営が一切対案してくれないから。 15分以上ドアを叩き続けられる。その上、1:30過ぎまで荷物の整理、チャックを開けたり閉めたり、、、静寂は2:00近くまで訪れることはない。 半締まりの薄いカーテン一枚で遮音できる訳でもなく、眠れる人はカプセルから足を出したままイビキをかくひとだけ。

Due to the system design that check-in is done online the day before and the business model that has no manager, the time when there are no staff is a lawless zone.

If you are a guest who made a reservation for that day and it is your first time using the hotel, please give up. After midnight, the auto-lock door cannot be opened and the guests inside continue to bang on the metal door... The guests inside are forced to deal with it. Because the remote management does not offer any alternatives. They can continue banging on the door for more than 15 minutes. On top of that, they organize their luggage and open and close zippers until after 1:30... silence does not come until almost 2:00. A thin curtain that is half-tightened does not block out the sound, and the only people who can sleep are those who snore with their feet sticking out of the capsule.
