Excellent location at one end of Lake Toya; contrary to expectations and some reviews, we found this a good thing as it is away from main hotels and the crowd yet bang opposite the lake. Our room had lake view and from what we saw all rooms come with lake view- the view is fantastic! Room itself is Japanese style (Ryokan) but very neat and tidy. Great advantage of having toilet and bath in the room, especially if you have children. From hotel lobby you climb down a few steps to enter the lakeside park- the stretch of land all along the rim of the lake which has beautiful greenery, benches, etc. Fireworks that begin at 8:45 pm were a big attraction for us. This hotel is not ideal if you plan to view from hotel room. But walk for 5 mins into the lakeside park and you get great view anyway. We did not opt for breakfast or dinner so have no comments other than saying breakfast smelled good in the lobby :-) Overall we would recommend this over and above the big hotels in the area and better than other Ryokans due to the facility of toilets + bath...
Read moreHotel is very old and feels like it is from the 1950s. There is no card key, they still use the room key. There is no amenities provided except basics such as soap and shampoo provided in small packs.
However, the good thing is that the room is big, with windows overlooking the lake. I can watch fireworks comfortably.
The bed and pillows are not comfortable. Perhaps because I am not used to sleeping on futon. The breakfast is very average.
The worst part is the onsen. It is dirty, small with some visibly rusted parts on the doors and windows. The water was green. There are damages on the shower handle that the hotel simply taped (!!). The changing room smells bad. The absolutely worst part is the outdoor onsen. It is located at the 1st floor with very low walls. I can easily see people walking outside the outdoor onsen!!!! And hotel guests who stays above the onsen can also see into the outdoor onsen!! This is terrible. I cannot enjoy the outdoor onsen at all without worrying about peeping toms!!...
