Viewpoint Cafe — Restaurant in Luang Prabang

It seems like a nice place, but my husband and I just had a weird experience. After some recommendations from people and online blogs, we stopped for lunch at around 11:40 am. I started to tell the order, but the waiter informed me that the kitchen is very small and maybe I don't want to order food, as there was another table with 6 people that just ordered food. Upon asking about the possible waiting time, I've been informed it may take 20-30 minutes. I said it's OK for me to wait for the food, as I also intended to get a warm tea. The waiter insisted that the kitchen is small and it could take even longer, then he was mumbling sth that I could not logically understand, but I've decided to leave. I felt like I was being chased away!

I would suggest the management to instruct their staff better in communicating possible delays. If the kitchen cannot commit to prepare lunch for all the tables you offer, then do something - either serve a more limited menu or take out...

I used to visit this place every time I came to LuangPrabang because the atmosphere and view were nice and it is a non-smoking area. So this time I decided to have a meal. However, when there was a group of three walked in, they sat and smoked. I asked staff (probably manager or supervisor) if smoking allowed? Clearly, there was a signage that smoking isn't allowed in the dining area. But the staff simply replied there are not so many customers here so they can smoke. I was dumbfounded to hear such an answer I choose to come to this place because of it is non-smoking place policy but with that kind of reply my meal wasn't enjoyable becuase of the smell of the smoke from cigarettes (actually food was good though).

Maybe the cafe can consider to separate the zone for smoking and non-smoking if you want to cater to customers who smoke and...

Previously in 2017 and 2019 we ate here and it was great. This year the service was extremely poor, with dirty tables, staff discourteous and couldn’t be bothered to take our order.

We visited twice this year year. The first time we thought it was a one off and we did actually eat. The food was fine. This week when we revisited we had to wait to be guided to our table, two staff just ignored us. When we finally were directed to a table, which was dirty I cleaned the table so we could sit down.
