I booked a lovely double room with bathroom and breakfast at the EKES KONVENTS HOTEL & BREAKFAST through AIRBNB on the 27th January for my trip to Riga last weekend, 29th to 31st March. I had planned this trip in advance as I do with all my trips because I don’t like surprises or disorganisation. We arrived in Riga in the last flight from Dublin, and went straight to the EKES KONVENTS HOTEL & BREAKFAST. When we arrived at the hotel, for our surprise, there was NO ROOM AVAILABLE FOR US. The receptionist said that they had a flood or something in the room that was booked for us 3 days before our arrival and the manager didn’t let us know or arranged anything else regarding to our stay. We had this booking PAID SINCE JANUARY 2019 and we were not told about this problem until our arrival at around 11:15pm on Friday 29th March. The receptionist saw how frustrated we were and said he could only apologise and how sorry he was for this unfortunate situation we had to deal. The receptionist young man also said that it was my job to contact AIRBNB to get my refund but he would contact AIRBNB himself to explain the problem the hotel had and we wouldn’t have any issues or delays to get our money back. Another surprise happened when I contacted AIRBNB customer support. The hotel very dishonestly said that they were not due to refund because the problem was a NO SHOW TO CHECK IN! It’s terrible to see how business people can lie and have no commitment to sort a problem created by themselves. Why would someone in their right mind would change a 3 Stars Hotel with breakfast ALREADY PAID SINCE JANUARY for a budget room in a normal chain hotel that would cost more money???? Very disappointing and upsetting deal with a situation like this specially when you find out you’re dealing with dishonest people involved. Thanks to a very professional assistant from Airbnb Support with all the proofs we provided, we had our refund. And should never go back or recommend this...
Read moreI stayed in this hotel and, unfortunately, I forgot two of my leather jackets in the room. When I got back to London the next day and realised it, I called the hotel to arrange collection, but I was told by the receptionist that my jackets were found and thrown away in the bin the same day. He told me that a cleaner found my jackets and threw them away straight away. I emailed the manager about it, but he didn't even bother to call me back and apologise for it. When I called them again, the manager said that they don't take responsibility for it and that it was my fault I forgot my jackets. He was quite rude and very unprofessional. Also, he put the phone down on me. I find it unacceptable behaviour and absolutely ridiculous. I travel across Europe on a regular basis due to my work. I have stayed in many hotels in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia as well as all around the world, I have never come across such unacceptable behaviour by hotel employees. The hotel should have certain policies, including lost property. People regularly forget things. A hotel should keep lost things at least for a month or so. The staff cannot just throw away valuable things in the bin. I called the very next day, not in a month or two month time. Any normal person would never throw away two new expensive leather jackets in the bin. I find this story unbelievable. Don't ever stay in this hotel if you want your things to be safe in case you forget them in the hotel. Awful...
Read moreWe had a very bad experience at this ‘historical hotel’ (it is a hostel really – a dilapidated old house with no restaurant or bar on-site – it’s no surprise the picture shown is taken at night). ||On arrival, we were told that they didn’t have a booking for us which was clearly a lie as they had already acknowledged it. Then they said they had space for the first two nights but not for the third night of our booking as they had a block booking (Riga is famous for stag weekends) so we would have to leave on the Friday. Normally the hotelier in these circumstances would acknowledge their error (or intention in this case) of making a double booking and arrange another hotel for us at their expense. Instead they gave us 50 euros back but the replacement hotel cost nearer 100. ||So far so bad. Their comments to us after we left a poor review were as follows: ||‘Next time you can stay at home’||And||‘We explained you why we can’t honour this reservation, I guess you are too old to understand’||It’s true they did explain their reason – it was that they had taken a more lucrative booking, so they threw us out.||The childish response from the young guys who run this hostel demonstrates that it may be suitable for stag parties for under 25-year olds but for the over 25’s and for people with any...
