The owners and one staff are quite friendly and the place is clean. But, my first night in an AC room on the second floor resulted in an attack by bedbugs. I had bites all over and had two large bedbugs killed for proof to show the one staff member. I explained to her and one of the owners that I wouldn't feel comfortable paying for the night being that I couldn't sleep a wink. They said no problem. They were reasonable (quite rare in the budget guesthouse world) so instead of stomping out as I expected to do, I changed to a fan room and stayed for the next three nights. There is a mosque nearby with its call to prayers and the fan rooms share those makeshift walls that provide no sound insulation, but if you have a no/quiet neighbor, it's fine. This is an instance where the owners/management made a positive difference despite the...
Read moreAfter walking through Chulia street asking every hotel/motel/hostel for a place (fully booked everywhere due to bank holiday) we tried this last hotel, hoping that it would have a decent room. Even though we were dead tired, we danced of excitement when we saw the room. Big, clean, nice beds and a sink. Staff is extremely kind and very helpful and the price is unbeatable. Don't expect luxury, just a good stay that is worth every penny. It was the first time we booked a hotel room with shared bathroom but for us it was perfect. Clean toilet and shower :) The only 'downside' is that they close the doors at night and you have to shout inside to wake someone up so they can open up (but this is only a bit uncomfy if you are going out and come back in the middle of the night). Anyway, we will definitely come back here once we set foot in...

Hang Chow, more of a backpacker spot than mainstream tourist hotel, is clean and economical, tho it is a bit Spartan. A ground floor fan room was quite adequate for our needs - two nites in Georgetown before heading on to Langkawi. One of many enigmas in the Far East, while our room had a hot shower, the toilet was a shared facility a short distance away.||||The restaurant up front, while nothing to rave about, is adequate for grabbing a quick bite. The site is handy to Il Bacaro, a 'fine dining' spot, laundry service and a travel agency. The agency, 3 doors down, reliably arranged a private tour of Georgetown highlights, a taxi to the Langkawi Ferry and ferry passage...
