Honest and Detailed Review – Hotel 99, Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur (5 Days 4 Nights Stay)
I stayed at Hotel 99, Jalan Pudu for 5 days and 4 nights, and I’d like to share my honest experience to help future travelers.
🛬 Check-In & First Impressions
Upon arrival, I proceeded to the front desk. The check-in process was quite fast. I paid the tourism tax of RM10 per night, and a RM50 deposit which was returned at check-out.
However, no staff accompanied me to the room — it was a self-service style. I had to take the lift (which made a loud sound when opening), walk down a dim hallway with dull grey carpet and matching grey walls, which gave a gloomy impression.
🛏️ Room Condition
Surprisingly, the room was spacious for a budget hotel. It included:
2 white cups
2 coffee sachets (no sugar, no expiry date, so I didn't drink them)
2 bottles of mineral water
Electric kettle
Flat-screen TV
Bed and sheets
Wardrobe with fixed hangers
A small in-room safe
Telephone and air-conditioner remote beside the bed
AC worked well and was cold
Unfortunately, there was no mini-fridge, which was a serious issue for me because I brought prescription medication that needed refrigeration. I had to rely on the cool temperature from the AC instead.
Also:
The floor tiles were cracked in some parts
The blanket had a slight unpleasant smell
Lighting in the room was a bit dim and not cozy
🚿 Bathroom
This was my favorite part of the room. The bathroom had:
Consistently warm water
2 bars of soap, 1 shampoo sachet, toothpaste, and a glass for rinsing
A working hair dryer
The bathroom was clean and relatively comfortable.
🧹 Housekeeping
The housekeeping staff were friendly and responsive. They didn’t clean daily unless requested, but when I asked for something, they delivered it kindly and quickly.
🔊 Major Issue: Noise
This was the biggest downside of my stay.
The room was not soundproof at all. I could clearly hear:
People talking from nearby rooms
Running water from other bathrooms
Even gossip conversations from other guests
It was very disturbing. I personally tried to stay quiet, but it didn’t help — the noise from other rooms kept me awake at night and disrupted my rest during the day. I was shocked and disappointed by how easily sound traveled in the building.
📍 Location
The location is strategic:
Very close to Pudu Sentral — just climb a few stairs to access bus and train stations
Within walking distance to Petaling Street and Masjid Jamek
Bukit Bintang is a bit farther, but still walkable if you enjoy walking
Plenty of food options nearby
Close to temples and houses of worship, which was personally meaningful for me
✅ Final Thoughts
This hotel is suitable for budget travelers looking for a strategic location and basic amenities. But if you’re looking for a peaceful rest and a quiet room, I wouldn’t recommend it.
I appreciated the clean bathroom, decent space, and good AC, but the lack of soundproofing and mini fridge really affected my comfort. I hope the hotel can improve these aspects in the future.

Read moreMy recent experience at Hotel 99Pudu left me utterly dismayed and regretful. From the moment I arrived, it became apparent that this establishment falls far short of even the most basic expectations. The staff, who are supposed to epitomize hospitality, were shockingly rude and disrespectful.
To make matters worse, despite the advertised check-in time of 2 PM, I was forced to endure an additional half-hour wait before finally being granted access to my room. This blatant disregard for punctuality displayed a lack of professionalism and consideration for guests' time. It set the tone for the dismal experience that awaited me.
Entering the room, I was immediately confronted with a shocking realization - there was not a single window in sight. The absence of natural light created an oppressive atmosphere, making the room feel suffocating and cramped. It was as if the designers had purposely crafted a space devoid of any semblance of comfort or joy. This complete lack of a window also meant that mobile internet connectivity was nonexistent, leaving me feeling isolated and cut off from the outside world. It was akin to being confined to a dark and lifeless tomb.
As if the absence of windows wasn't enough, the hotel also failed to provide one of the most basic necessities in today's digital age: Wi-Fi. It is simply unacceptable for any hotel, especially one that claims to cater to guests' needs, to not offer this essential amenity. In an era where constant connectivity is crucial for work and personal communication, the absence of Wi-Fi severely hindered my ability to stay connected and productive. This oversight showcased the hotel's outdated approach to guest services and a complete lack of consideration for their customers' needs.
Considering the exorbitant price I paid for this subpar experience, the absence of windows, the lack of Wi-Fi, and the overall disappointment, I cannot emphasize enough how strongly I advise against choosing Hotel 99Pudu for your stay. The discourteous staff, lack of windows, and woeful amenities make it a dreadful choice. For the same price range, there are numerous other hotels available that offer far superior accommodations in more desirable locations.
Save yourself the frustration and heartache by avoiding Hotel 99Pudu at all costs. Seek out alternative accommodations that prioritize their guests' comfort and provide the essential amenities expected in...
Read moreTerrible terrible hotel. If you are reading this review, please take my review seriously, no joke.Everything in the room is dirty and has awful smell.(Hotel replied here and claimed that they couldn’t find my staying record, but they didn’t even asked for my name or date of booking…) I saw some people posted their photos of disaster here, you can check it out. I found some used tissue paper at the bathroom, and they also used tissue paper to stuck inside a wall lamp just to prevent it from falling down… Ya, it sounds ridiculous, but it is real. I escaped from this hotel after the first night even though I booked for three nights. I even have some skin allergies after the first night due to the dirty bed sheet and yellowish pillow, I barely touch the pillow already, I just slept at the corner of that bed. The room is literally stink, many workers walked in and out at the corridor, strange people smoking in other room with opened door. I tried to change another room, but the reception said it will be the same, I mean even the reception admitted this hotel is horrible and will never improve. They were even removing the AC compressors of some rooms and cracking the walls, this is a construction site + hotel… this is real review with real experience and don’t trust other positive reviews, I think those are fake accounts, because I was cheated by those positive reviews. There are one star review and mixing with 5 or 4 stars review from strange accounts, it is quite obvious right? You will see many hotel guests complain to the front desk right after they check in, but the front desk can’t help you at all. I won’t blame the staff for all these, the real problem is the company behind this hotel. 1 dollar for one night is still too expensive and they will collect 50 ringgit for deposit, come on, they should pay us 50 ringgit instead, for our traumatised mental of staying...
