I went back to Nam Heong yesterday 23/4/24 for chicken rice just to see what it is like since my last visit. Overall it is disappointing. I noticed that now they only sell steamed village chicken (at double the price from previously local chicken) and local roast chicken at half the price of steamed. We had the roast chicken this time and found it to be overly salty..the gravy over the chicken. We had a plate of vegetables and that was ok. I haven't decided if I will go back again and instead will try other chicken rice places in Chinatown . With a 10% and 6% service and govt tax these days it can get expensive. Side note: if you like the steamed chicken version, perhaps order the set lunch plate.
Past review We have been there several times and found it reliable. However, the last trip we ordered the usual dishes, half steamed chicken and vegetables and an extra plate of bbq pork. It turned out the waiter had ordered us the village chicken at double the price. I should have clicked that the chicken skin looks more yellow than usual but didn't question it. I find the village chicken meat tends to be tougher. Anyway the lesson here is to check where the waiter ticked on the order form even though I pointed to him on the menu that I want just the...
Read more(was 5 stars read more to see why) Best Rice ever. Chicken was good too. Recent renovations made it very cozy and clean. My go to chicken rice stall for 30 years
After today's experience I certainly do not think they are worth 5 stars. Staffs of mine working on site has some leftover food from yesterday. They requested some of their chicken rice's rice only as they love em. So I went to buy a pack of 10 but they looked at me with weired eyes and said rice only!!!! Sorry we don't do it. Hmm maybe it's a general chicken rice stall policy I do not know. But rice only is on the menu with a price and the options are there too for grab. So I do not understand as to why they do not want this sale. It is sales after all. Times are bad now some ppl may genuinely want just the rice for an affordable meal to get pass their days and maynot want to afford the chicken to save cost. So is this telling me they will turn the homeless and poor away should they come up and just want to purchase rice only? My good review stays at the top as truly they are quite nice especially the rice. But I have to change the review of the place due to it's response to customers.
Just my 2 cents. Ultimately it is nice but service is just as important. For that I have dropped...

I decided to have lunch at Nam Heong Chicken Rice in Petaling Street today. Once I was seated at my table, the waiters decided to be blind. It was so obvious that I needed assistance with ordering my lunch. But, every waiter that walked by my table avoided to look at me and the area I was seated at. Later on, I ordered an iced chinese tea along with my meal. My drink did not come with a straw, so I requested for a straw. The waiter stopped to ask me what drink was I having. As soon as I said chinese tea, he immediately said “you don’t get a straw if you order chinese tea”. I was flabbergasted with his response. I looked around and noticed every iced drink had its own straw. However, I was not given the same service. To my dismay, I decided to turn a blind eye on this matter and continued drinking my drink without a straw.
Moving on to their cutleries. The cutleries are placed in a cutlery box and all of them, the chopsticks, forks and spoons were greasy and sticky. It seemed like they don’t wash and clean them up throughly. Some of them had dirt stuck onto them. Completely unsanitary.
On top of the terrible service, their food is a disgrace to the Malaysian culture....
