Warning!!!! Circumstances have drastically changed.|The elderly wife walked out on her husband four months ago and is thought to be living in Penang, possibly with another man. The husband (Ibrahim) has been left to run the place by himself and is finding it difficult to get any help. Whilst, one can't help feeling very sorry for his polite, we did go for a holiday and not as social workers!|He is understandably very bitter about what has happened and may even be going through some mental unstable condition.|The beachside section of land with the house has been taken over by a local and Arab and so only the Chalets are available. Looking at earlier photos, everything seems to be deteriorating with lack of maintenance. The Guesthouse advertises TV, hot water & WiFi. None of which were available when we stayed. When we phoned to book, Ibrahim offered to pick us up from the ferry to which we assumed was offered on a courtesy basis. After staying four nights we waited half the day for him to give us a lift back.|Every morning we sat on the balcony to have breakfast and every morning plus every time he saw us, he vented his spleen by shouting about all the bad things his wife and everybody else had done to him.|The more we found out about him, the more we became cautious of getting on his bad side. He had thrown stones at his wife and got in a fight with a taxi driver because he didn't agree with his political views!|Inspite of asking earlier, we got the bill five minutes before leaving with no breakdown of cost and by then we just paid up. The lifts to and from the ferry, had been included at the full taxi rate to travel in a beaten up old auto with a faulty selector, engine that stalled, him shouting all the way and dirty seats. I hired a motorbike from him which I dropped sideways upon starting and he told me I'd broken the clutch which showed only signs of wear and tear. Of course I never saw a receipt from the mechanic! 235 MR was included in the bill.|To be honest, we felt relieved to get away from him.|The positives are that he is cheap although, probably not cheap enough for the lack of facilities. Ibrahim is an interesting man being an Iranian wing commander fighter pilot during the Iraq/Iran war.|He is 77 and repeats himself continuously and alway quickly changes the conversation to his wife. He offers you the world, and charges you heavily for...
Read moreI booked a three-night stay at this cabin at the end of October, looking forward to my mid-November holiday, but the overall experience turned out to be very disappointing. When I arrived on the afternoon of the 13th, I found a strong damp and moldy smell in the room that made me feel unwell after staying for a short while. The actual condition of the room was also very different from the photos shown on the platform and appeared quite old.
I asked the host if it was possible to change to another room, but was told that no alternative rooms were available. Following the host’s suggestion, I submitted a cancellation request through the platform, but he did not offer any assistance afterwards and repeatedly rejected the request, which made the whole process extremely difficult.
At the request of platform customer service, I went back to the property the next day to communicate with the host again. The atmosphere during the conversation was very unfriendly, and the host even became physically aggressive and verbally abusive, which made me feel unsafe. I eventually had to seek help from the local police and a police report was filed. Although the issue seemed to be resolved at the time, on the 15th I was informed that the cancellation request had still been rejected.
I am sharing this experience so that other travelers can be aware of the issues I encountered—especially regarding the room conditions, communication, and safety—before making a booking, and make a more...
Read moreWe stayed at Shirin guesthouse for 3 nights in a standard double room (small private cottage) for 60 RM per night. The room included a private bathroom and an (very) old air conditioner that wasn't working too well which was quite unpleasant in the heat. |The room was clean but had a lot of bugs, flies and cockroaches. Especially the bed was filled with small bugs and one night I had a lot of difficulties sleeping because I was itching everywhere. |The guesthouse is located down some small roads from the main street so it would be quite difficult to find on your own. There are some signs but only when you get of the Main Street. But the small road is right opposite Orkid ria seafood and there is a taxi stand on he corner. If you turn down this road and follow it you should be able to reach the guesthouse. Because of the location it's quiet in the evening which was nice. |There should be a restaurant at the place but that was definitely not the case, they only had a fridge and boiler you could use, so you have to go to the Main Street for all meals - about 5-10 min walk. |The owner was friendly and asked everyday if we had a good time. He also arranged for us to rent a scooter and he drove us to the ferry in his own car (very old car that didn't work too well - a little scared to go in the car, and made a involuntary stop on the highway...). ||We had a mixed experience at this place and was not too pleased with the room because of bugs. Don't really know if I...
