Putumayo Restaurant — Restaurant in Langkawi Island

We, two families with kids, recently have visited Putumayo Restaurant, the one located at Palau Lankawi Jalan, Pantai Cenang, Langkawi. It was a great experience. This restaurant is well-known for its Asian and Chinese seafood dishes, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere suitable for both romantic evenings and larger group gatherings.

The seafood, such as Putumayo ocean fish, garlic butter tiger prawn, calamari with curry leaves, duck with mango, and prawn crackers, was exceptionally fresh, delicious, and well-prepared. These dishes showcased the variety and richness of Langkawi's culinary landscape. The restaurant staff were attentive and knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations for both food, beer and wine, which greatly enhanced our dining experience.

The outdoor seating area of Putumayo is another highlight, offering a pleasant environment for people-watching and immersing oneself in the local atmosphere. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and the level of service make it a worthwhile experience. Noticed that portion sizes are not as big as sometime restaurant staff claims 🙂For those planning to visit, I recommend dining in the evening to enjoy the ambiance, though it might be busier at this time.

Honestly the best dining experience for me here. Service was fantastic throughout my dinner here. Staff provided recommendations, even mentioning if the food might be too much for us. They also pull the chairs out for us when sitting us at the table. Service staff are very initiative here. They offer to assist cracking up my crab shells at my table. Took initiative to help bring the glove box nearer when I was trying to reach it from other side of table. They also offered a new pint of beer when a housefly got into my wife's beer. Really astounded by the impeccable service provided here.

My wife and I had a salted egg crab chosen by my wife. weighed and calculated on the spot for her. It was RM20/100g for the live mud crab. A plate of butter milk prawns which was really delicious. The sauce was super fragrant and we used it to drape our white rice. It wasn't overpowering nor saltish. Just right for us A plate of scallop & broccoli. Love the freshness of the scallops and the crunchiness of the broccoli which in my opinion is the best way to have broccoli, not soggy. The sauce that accompanied it was mild salty kind of oyster sauce. Love it as well. The white rice was served in a star shape, quite interesting. First time seeing such a thing.

The restaurant was not half-occupied, maybe that explains the superb attentiveness of the staff. Food quality was basically sedap max👍

Just went there an hour ago. Bad service. Ordered the food (fish, chicken and sizzling bean curd). Bean curd hardly any taste, not even cooked properly. Chicken was very good. Fish was fine too. At first the waiter said the fish would cost RM130/kg and the fish we could get smallest about 800grams as there was only 4 of us. He then came to us saying smallest he could find in the aquarium was 1.070kg. We told him that you earlier said there’s a smaller one, and he came back again saying ok he found it. We are not foreigners, so we know how they try to ‘fish’ you for more. So there while eating, a guy who was greeting us from the entrance came to our table and ask us for feedback. We complained about the toufu, and he was nice enough to tell us to please highlight to the waiter so the chef could improve. So we did that, but guess what, the waiter just stood there quiet and swipe our card while paying. No apology whatsoever. We even told them this would be the last we would come here, and he then said ‘Ok, thank you’. At the very least, you should apologise and accept our feedback. We were prepared to pay, weren’t asking for any discount or so but just want our feedback to be taken into consideration.
