My stay at this hotel was ok. It wasn't great and definitely could have been better, but it was ok. They are doing many renovations now and so there is a strong chemical smell from carpet glue and paint throughout the building. I had a headache the entire 3 night stay because of that. However, the beds are comfy and I was able to sleep ok.
I had a reservation for a higher class room on the 6th floor, but when I arrived, they couldn't give me my room because of renovations, so they put me in a normal room on the 2nd floor (for the same price....no discount!)
There is no ATM in the building or easily accessible, so make sure you have enough cash for a taxi (if applicable) before you arrive at the hotel.
The front desk had a problem with their American Express card machine, so make sure you have a backup Visa or Mastercard just in case. I had to use my personal card because their machine for Amex was down. :(
The bartender is very, very nice and speaks good English. Sadly, his beer selection is very limited and not very cold, but at least it was available, so that's ok.
The future of this hotel is bright, but right now it is a little difficult for me to recommend visiting in the short-term future. If you wait until 2015, I think this hotel will be quite nice...but I hope they get an ATM machine! :)
The location is pretty good. There aren't many restaurants within a 5 minute walk and most are across a busy street, so you have to take a pedestrian bridge over the street and then walk back down the road. It takes a little while, but not too bad. To get to the much nicer hotels, it takes about 12 to 15 minutes to walk there in San Pedro, but it is worth...
Read moreI had the misfortune to stay at this hotel for nearly three weeks. 1) The ceiling AC vent fell into the room, dumping the filter on the floor and spewing dust across the room. It took nearly 30 minutes to get maintenance to the room, and I gave up waiting for the room to be cleaned. I requested and received a new room, but had to repack everything I had unpacked. 2) I called repeatedly to have my laundry picked up. After nearly 30 minutes I gave up and took it to the front desk so I could leave for the day. 3) I called IHG to complain, and was told that the front desk would contact me within 15-20 minutes to resolve my concerns. No call came, ever. 4) We went to the pool, but there were no towels. We requested some from the front desk, and they arrived an hour later as we were preparing to leave the pool. 5) I tried to order room service one night, but the person who answered said he did not speak English, and set the phone down. After ten minutes of listening to the sounds of the kitchen, I gave up. 6) The 6th floor lounge was repeatedly out of bottled water (and other drinks, but the water was what I cared about). 7) My colleagues and I were asked twice to "prepay" our bill, something that I've never been asked to do before anywhere. 8) And to top it off, I was double charged for laundry services. They agreed to refund the amount overcharged, but said it would take a month.
This property is new to the IHG family, and it shows, Neither the physical infrastructure nor the staff are yet up to the standards I normally experience - and have come to expect - from IHG properties. Avoid this hotel for the...
Read moreI am a return guest of this hotel mainly because of its prime location at a very accessible price. I used to stay at this hotel back when it had a different name, and the one thing that has remained consistently great despite change of ownership is its kitchen. You'll get a mix of travelers at this hotel. During the week, be prepared to see more business travelers and locals on their lunch break in the restaurant. Yet as the weekend approaches, the hotel seems to be rather popular for large groups attending weddings and other social events. However, I wish I could see more familiar faces during my return stays. There always seems to be someone whom I've never seen before working the front desk. In the same manner, the front desk staff should improve guest safety and security by verifying that guests requesting a new key to their hotel room (whether they lost it or it was deactivated) show an ID and/or prove they are part of the reservation. This small mishap can greatly affect a guest's personal safety. Though the facilities are a bit dated, they are clean. Housekeeping staff is wonderful, polite, and always willing to help. I will be...
