We stayed in the hotel for six nights at the beginning of March. Here are some observations.||Pros:|It is very clean. It is fairly close to the key sites and restaurants in and around the main plaza (about a 2 minute walk to the plaza, about 15 minutes to the nicer restaurants). ||The room windows face an interior courtyard so there is no noise at all from the street (which apparently can be a problem in Oaxaca).||We stayed in one of the suites because we wanted a second window to let more light into the room; it was fine. ||The hotel restaurant is quite good: the service there is excellent, and we particularly enjoyed breakfast on mornings (most) when we had to rush out and, in the couple of evenings when we were too tired to go out again, enjoyed the tortilla soup for dinner. (The restaurant is a little loud with street noise as they do keep the huge wooden door to the street open but that did not bother us … it’s a city.)||Cons:||There is no concierge and only one person who staffs the front desk and seems to be generally responsible for everything. We asked just once if they could call and make a dinner reservation for us (we made the rest well in advance before we left home), and were told the restaurant hadn’t answered the phone when they called. We had the impression they were just too busy with all of their other responsibilities so didn’t make much of an effort to follow up (or to offer us another suggestion at|another restaurant). For this price (and it IS pricey for Oaxaca) they really need an additional staff member who can reach out to and for guests with recommendations and assistance booking.||The supposed roof-top “terrace” is just an unfinished roof with metal beams lying around, a single table with umbrella and a couple|of uninstalled hot tubs leaning on their sides. Sitting on a terrace in the cool of the evening is an important part of the experience in Oaxaca and this shouldn’t be advertised unless they really have one. Clearly the intention is to improve it but as of now it has not happened. ||As far we could tell, the “cava bar” was not open during our entire week stay there.||We chose this hotel (and were willing to pay more for it …) because it looked like it would be quiet and we’d be able to sleep. As mentioned above, there is no street noise. However, we did have noise problems on 3 separate nights. In each case, the problem was other guests. In one case, a couple conducted a screaming match (in Spanish) for three hours, from 4 a.m – 7 a.m., at which point we gave up, got dressed and left. The police were called and dealt with it calmly and eventually the couple was|removed from the hotel, but not until we’d lost a night’s sleep. The next couple of nights a different group of guests (they occupied 3 or 4 rooms and may have been related) persisted in yelling conversations (in Spanish) across the interior courtyard from the open doorways of their rooms. Bad enough when they did it in the late afternoon, but they also did it every single night at around 2 am when they came back from the bars. The same group allowed their boys to play soccer INSIDE the hotel, kicking the ball off the walls in the interior courtyard and even in the main dining area. Again, bad|enough when they were doing it in the late afternoon, but they took it up again when they returned at 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. ||Of course, we understand that a hotel cannot completely control rude guests. However, other than calling the police that one time, it seemed the hotel never did anything about it at all (we could see the front desk person was annoyed with the soccer playing, but they just made a face and sat at their desk). Because all of the rooms face directly onto the one small interior courtyard, noise from other (rude) guests can be...
Read moreWe stayed here on our first trip to Oaxaca to experience Day of the Dead, the local cuisine, arts, and mezcal. I highly recommend this wonderful, boutique hotel. From the moment you enter the central courtyard, which houses the restaurant, you feel welcomed. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The rooms are new and extremely well designed. We had a large room with a very comfortable king bed, a couch, and small table with 2 chairs. The wall mounted heat and air unit is very effective in keeping the temperature comfortable. The closets, double vanity bath with large walk in shower, and enclosed potty room are behind the wall against which the bed rests. It is a great room. ||If you go, be sure to have a cocktail in the Cava Bar in the basement. The bartender is a true cocktail mixologist. Try the mezcalrita. You will not be disappointed. ||They offer an excellent breakfast selection and we ate there every day. Our server, Jeanette, had learned her excellent English during her years in Nashville. She was helpful, friendly, and a great plus for this hotel. ||We definitely would book this...
Read moreIn short, wow, what an amazing hotel. From the moment we checked in to the time a taxi was called for us everything was amazing. The rooms(we had a king size) were great, with nice linens, and a layout that works great for travelers. The floor to ceiling stone tile shower with a rainfall shower head was a great way to unwind after a day exploring beautiful Oaxaca. The bed was firm, with a nice massive headboard that was a centerpiece to the room. The TV channels were ok, only 1 good station in English, but we could sign in to our Netflix on the smart TV which was great. The staff was always there to help in any need we had, and helped with a smile. They also have great places for restaurants that locals frequent as opposed to tourist traps. Amazing hotel, with great architecture, history, and staff that we would stay at again when...
