This is a nice hotel in a good location. There are maybe 10 or 12 rooms. We stayed in room 7, on the upper floor, with a small balcony overlooking the street. ||||The entry is locked 24 hrs a day, and you ring the buzzer for them to let you in, making it very secure. There is always someone there within seconds to let you in. The lobby is unassuming, but clean. Not a place to hang out though. ||||The people running reception are wonderful, very friendly and willing to help. I speak Spanish, so I actually don't know how much English they know. ||||The rooms are very large, we had 2 double beds plus a closet, console table and still loads of floor space. The tv is a large (42"?) flat screen, with tons of cable channels. ||||Bathroom is large and comfortable. They give you 2 bottles of water each day. Plus there's a little market next door if you need additional. ||||The room was 795 pesos, roughly $70 us dollars. I think it was fair, especially if additional space matters to you. ||||Downsides: the area to the north of the zocalo seems to be where more hotels and cute shops are. This was on the west side, and more of a locals area. Not a far walk, although I think I would have preferred the north side. Second- the street can be noisy with car horns throughout the night. The balcony was nice, but if you're a light sleeper you might prefer their...
Read moreWe stayed in this hotel in April 2011. It is a smaller property in an excellent location only a few blocks away from the Zocalo and walking distance to many shops and tour buses to sites such as Montalban and Mitla. The hotel was secure, clean, and peaceful with excellent, friendly staff. There was free wi-fi, a nice back patio with tables, free drinking water dispenser, and a shared small refrigerator in the back hallway the guests could use. Our room was a decent size with an individual bathroom (I believe all of the rooms have their own bathroom, a huge plus), had a ceiling fan, and was away from the street. The staff was very helpful in recommending where to eat, where to catch the tour buses, calling cabs to bring us to the airport, etc...they really went above and beyond to make sure our stay was enjoyable. We speak Spanish so I'm not sure how the staff's English skills are, but I'm sure they will be just as helpful to anyone. For its central location and considering the rooms have their own bathroom, the prices were very reasonable...probably much more reasonable than the hotels directly on the Zocalo (and less noisy too!). Definitely recommend this place and we will be...
Read moreBooked through booking.com ||||Good points:||- 24 hour desk ||- clean ||||- Bad points ||- Gate is ALWAYS closed so you have to ring a bell (not a huge ordeal but inconvenient although hotel is located in a good area and other hotels do not have this issue)||- VERY noisy. Hotel is one large hall. No carpets, no noise cancelling. Noise starts at 4 AM you can hear EVERYTHING. People coming and going. Screeching gate opening and closing.||- Incompetent front desk staff. When we left we had to pay rack rate instead of the BOOKING.COM rate although they had a print out AND I showed the person our info (i.e their confirmed booking online). He then pretended he couldn't find the printout (which another person showed us upon check in) and then babbled about different rates. Useless to say the least and very uncooperative. Anyway all sorted out with booking.com but a hassle nonetheless ||- the place has the charm of a hospital room (no decorations, no carpets, all white and empty empty spaces)||- issued with WIFI - frontdesk staff gave the wrong info ... urgh...
