Overall, I was most disappointed with the service. We were greeted warmly at check in, but then only saw one of those same people for the rest of our stay, and our stay was only two days.
We were at the pool for 3 hours and no one asked us if we needed anything. My husband had to flag someone down to order some beverages. The response was lackluster. The fellow took our order, but was not exactly apologetic or eager. When the bill came, we had been billed for what we ordered plus 4 daiquiris. I think I would have remembered drinking 4 daiquiris (or would at least have been passed out in my lounge chair). The waiter made the correction, but wasn't apologetic. It was just strange.
As lifetime Diamond Members, continental breakfast was included. The breakfast was good, but it also was strange. It included coffee, juice, a fruit plate each, a basket of 3 pastries (no choice) for a couple, and your choice of cereal, oatmeal, or yogurt with fruit and granola. The quality of the food was excellent, but it was strange that they didn't just give us access to the cold buffet. The buffet was like a secret society that only those people opting for the buffet could even see as it was in a room in back of the breakfast area. After our first day of breakfast, we learned that we should just ask for what pastries we wanted as, if we left it to chance, we would end up with whatever was selected for us by the waitstaff. It would have been nice if they gave us a menu for the breakfast. I do have to say that the breakfast staff was the friendliest staff that we encountered.
We tried to book a reservation at Farallon for dinner but were offered 5 pm or 7:45 pm. That was disappointing as I would have thought that bookings would have been made at check-in if the restaurant was that busy. In hindsight, I'm glad that we canceled our 7:45 reservation as reviews describe it as tasty but extremely overpriced. We had a fun meal in town that night for less than $20 per person.
I'd also like to add that our room #821 was described as "ocean view". It is more accurately "partial ocean view" as it is obscured by another building. And "private plunge pool" is more accurately described as "a plunge pool to be enjoyed only by occupants of the room, but is by no means private being right above the Tortuguita Kids Club, the next building's open staircase, and a camera pointed straight down at it!". If this was a honeymoon, I would have been extremely disappointed by the lack of privacy of the plunge pool. It felt more like a decorative fountain.
The pricing for food and spa services was insulting. I paid $46 for a chicken salad! I've never paid $46 for a salad in my life and this is in Mexico where the cost of living is considerably less expensive than the U.S. We switched hotels after 2 days and got two 80-minute massages for less than one massage at The Waldorf Astoria.
Name tags would make the staff more approachable as it would be easier to remember people and be friendlier. The hotel we switched to had staff with name tags and it was nice getting to recognize people by name. It just kind of felt like the staff at The Waldorf was over rich guests and I can see why. The hotel room rate is extremely high and one meal probably costs more than the staff earn in a week.
Ending on a positive note, the property is beautiful and maintained very nicely. There's a complimentary Coronita (yes, mini Corona) and guacamole service delivered to your room each afternoon. Luisa, the yoga teacher, was very good and I enjoyed her class very much (class included with our stay). The location is great for walking right into town and the marina. In town you can find many options for food and beverages. I liked the approach to the hotel with the tunnel and the gorgeous view at the end. We wanted to try the hotel to see if the price was worth it. I don't think we'll be coming back, but we're also not people who feel that price is no object. If money grows on trees for you, you may...
Read moreI relied heavily on reviews while deciding on booking our stay at WA in Cabo so I’m going to try my best to cover everything I can in hopes of helping others decide whether they want to stay here. My husband & I celebrated our two year anniversary here and stayed for 4 nights and 5 days in the end of August 2024.
Arrival and check in: We opted for the king ocean view deluxe package in which a luxury SUV pick up and drop off from airport was included. The SUV had water and cold towels and our driver was great. Check in once we got here was smooth and they greeted us with a margarita and hibiscus water. Our room was not ready yet so we took these drinks to enjoy at Don Manuel’s while ordering some lunch.
Room: There are about 100 rooms or so (basing off of a YouTube video) at this resort and our room 324 was a king deluxe ocean view room which had a king size bed and a plunge pool. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept well each night. Bathroom feels like you’re in a spa. They provide amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, cleanser, soap and some good smelling toilet paper too! They also provided ice in bucket everyday, water, fridge full of sodas and juices. There is a coffee machine (a mini Nespresso) in the room as well with sugar packets. The plunge pool facing the ocean was one of the highlights of this trip for me as I sat in it everyday while listening to an audiobook and watching the ocean. The room itself was also cleaned everyday (they do a deep clean in the morning and another refresh at nighttime).
Food: There are 3 restaurants in the resort: El Farallon, Don Manuel’s and Beach Club. There is also a coffee shop, Neutral. We tried everything except for El Farallon. The food was all very delicious. We tried burger and chicken tacos from Don Manuel’s for lunch and shrimp tacos and brisket tacos at Beach Club which were very good. We got the breakfast buffet option at Don Manuel’s and enjoyed breakfast there every morning. We got so full from the buffet each day that we either skipped lunch or dinner because the buffet was so filling. The buffet has a variety of dishes including Mexican food such as quesadillas, lots of fresh fruits including papaya and kiwi, and a made to order omelette station with a variety of toppings. We also loved the fresh juices they had. The breakfast buffet was also one of my highlights of this trip. We did room service for the times we did not feel like going out to eat. Each dish was good except for one evening when I got chicken Alfredo in which I thought the chicken was extremely dry. Other than this, every dish we had was very good. Between 4-5 pm, they bring you chips, guacamole and pico de gallo, and two coronitas delivered to your room… a dream. My husband and I enjoyed these very much!
Cost: Keep in mind this is not an all inclusive resort. Prices are pretty comparable to US high end restaurants I would say. Be prepared to spend $100+ USD for 2 people during each meal without alcohol. My husband and I aren’t big drinkers so this is just food alone. Same goes for room service. Each check will come with a 15% added service charge. For the bfast buffet which was included in our fare already, we just received a $0 check in which we tipped for the service only. For those debating on whether to bring pesos or not, for the purposes of staying at this resort only, you do not need to as they will keep a credit card on file. We did tip our house staff with pesos though.
Pools: Absolutely loved the infinity pools here. There is an adults only pool, a family friendly pool and a kids pool. The adults pool and family friendly pool both face the Pacific Ocean and it’s unlike any other. Towel & water service was 10/10.
Service: WA in Cabo seems to pride themselves in their impeccable service and it clearly shows. Every encounter we had with staff was nothing short of attentive.
Overall, this was a great destination for our anniversary. Be prepared to spend $$$ as it’s very pricey (especially the food) but may be worth...
Read moreThe resort itself is unlike anywhere I’ve seen. It’s been rated #1 in Cabo, #2 in Mexico and in the top 50 on earth. To get to this place the hotel arranged a Escalade pick us up at the airport and drive us the 45 minutes to the resort. When you finally arrive at the gates, you snake up a path to a massive tunnel. This incredible tunnel is nearly a mile long, and took them two years to dig out. Its entire purpose is only to access the area of the resort. For this reason you get massive theme park vibes because you kind of “arrive” in the light at the end of the tunnel in a miraculous place.
Getting out of the car, the staff had already taken time to figure out on their own our favorite drinks, and had them on a platter at the curb. A different staff member grabbed our bags and disappeared. From here the staff introduced themselves and took us on a complete tour of the facility, ending in our room. Here, our bags had already been placed on the bed and there was even fresh made guacamole and a bucket of corona ready. Crazy.
Each room here has its own “plunge pool” no matter the size, and every room also faces the ocean. They even gift an entire bottle of the revered Clase Azul tequila for the room, hand painted in a specific pattern that is not available at retail. Later I would learn that room service came three times a day.
Service really was the major difference here VS a regular hotel. It seemed as if they had a staff member for every 2 hotel guests, they seemed to anticipate your needs. An example of this is would be when we returned to the gate after a walk in the city, and they had a platter with ice cold rags and bottled waters waiting on us. Another example would be the hand written postcard thanking jessica for spending her birthday at the hotel. Things like this were all day long, every day of the stay. We really felt like royalty.
Another highlight of the hotel was its many curated experiences, one of which was the barista class. For just $45 each we got a private 90 minute Oceanside coffee making session with the properties top expert. It wasn’t just entertainment, I seriously learned a lot of skills. That’s not normal for me on a leisure trip.
The concierge was unbelievably helpful, and within the first 10 minutes of arriving began a text chain with me. You don’t have to press 0 on the phone in your room, you can just text the concierge at any time day or night with literally any question or request. They team attacks it as if they were the genie in the movie Aladdin. There is no limit to their ability, they boasted they could even make an entire private firework show on the beach possible if you wish.
The food here was next level, and the quality was through the roof. Every meal we ate here was memorable, and although I really enjoyed the picturesque El Farallon restaurant that’s highly recommended, our best meals came from the main dining restaurant Don Manuel’s. Even the snacks and appetizers here were remarkable.
The scenery here is stunning, an entire resort built in a previously undeveloped and inaccessible beach next to a dramatic mountain. The vibe is part desert, part tropical, and all unique. If you took Arizona and Hawaii and belted them together with a jalapeño you would get this place.
There are too many details to mention, like fresh cookies on a plate by the bed magically every evening, or the staff knowing it was Jessica’s birthday without her saying. There were a lot of Disney level magic moment and customer service approaches that just elevated the experience beyond what I expected.
Would I recommend this place? Oh yes. Even if it’s just once, I hope that everyone can experience this kind of service, detail and care. It may have ruined me, because I couldn’t possible expect to be treated this well again unless I return. Needless to say, we almost...
