I was debating between 4 and 5 stars. I think really I would rate it 4.5 stars, but that's not an option and I can't give them a perfect score. I really, really enjoyed my stay at the Tesoro hotel. I stayed 3 nights using a small interior room, and then had 1 night in a different room that seemed to be an upgrade (free) with a balcony overlooking a hill and the someone of the city of Cabo San Lucas (the opposite side of the Marina). The staff was wonderful. They were all very friendly and and eager to help guests. The room was very clean and was nice. The price was good (booked from a third party site). The pool was really nice, but the hot tubs weren't very hot. One night the hot tub was barely even warm, that's one of the reasons I can't give them a 5 star. I made a comment about it when I got in and some of the other guests told me when they got in that they had asked for the temperature to be turned up twice, but it still wasn't hot. They said the other hot tub was even cooler than that one. I also wasn't super impressed with the breakfast. It was ok. It was mostly yogurt, juice, coffee, an omlette station, and a few metal pans with pancakes, waffles, and two others with some kind of mexican breakfast food that I can't remember but it didn't really interest me. I noticed that the people doing the omlette's don't wear gloves or anything and touch the food. Two of the days I stayed there I had early excursions. They said that I could get a "box lunch" to pick up if I was going to miss the breakfast. I thought that was really nice that they had that option. I got the box lunch the first day, it was a sandwich, an apple, and a little breakfast pastry all saran wrapped, and a can of sprite. It was ok, but I didn't go back and get it again for the second day. What I had in my head for what it was going to be and what it actually was were two different things. It's a good idea, they just need some better food in there. I definitely preferred the days that I could get the breakfast over the box lunch. I also had an issue in my first room with it being kind of cold at night. I tried to turn on the heat and set the temperature up (there is a dial in each room) but it just got colder after I did that! I don't know what the deal was with the thermostat in there. If I would have had a blanket or something it would have been perfect. The second room was a bit warm when I first went in (from the sun in the balcony window) but I turned on the air and it worked appropriately and cooled down quickly. I used the safe in the rooms, but I don't think anyone would have messed with my stuff if I didn't or ever came in other than to clean. I felt very safe in the hotel, and also felt safe in the Marina. There are some drug dealers out in the marina that will randomly approach trying trying to sell drugs, just like the people trying to sell hats and plates, ect. but I didn't really feel threatened by them or like they were going to rob me or anything, just kind of slightly harrassed to try to make a just sell like all of the other street merchants there. Definitely none of that was happening inside the hotel, just out front on the boardwalk of the marina and was happening all over the boardwalk. The location of this hotel is absolutely fabulous. It's right in the middle of the marina. There are tons of restaurants and tour operators all over the place. Just ignore the drug dealers, and the marina is a lively place with tons to do. I also walked over to the beach where they had jet ski's, lots of beach bars ect. I only ever needed transportation when I booked tours and they all did hotel pick up or met somewhere in the marina. I also used the shuttle service Transcabo to and from the airport that the hotel set up for me, which I was happy with. All in all I really liked this hotel. My negatives are all small details and I would definitely stay there again if the prices were the...
Read moreWe have been coming to Cabo for years, but this was our first time Staying at Tesoro Los Cabos. This year there were 6 of us, and we had three different marina view rooms (one standard, one Junior Suite, and one Master Suite) that were next to each other making it nice to get together to game in a room or walk together when leaving to go places, and we went with all-inclusive this year.
The resort is dated (built in 1989) with no recent updates that we could tell, but we found it nice and will be returning next year. Depending on where your room is, you may have a walk to where you are going. We were in the Master Suite (room 424), and it was 350 steps from our room to the pool/Vista Rooftop Restaurant. We enjoyed the walk, but I know that can be an issue for some people. The resort of this location is second to none – it is the BEST! We were asked about timeshare when we checked in but did not bother us after that. The guys working the lobby bar were awesome and made very tasty drinks.
Our rooms were all nice, but the lighting was dark in all the rooms (without the curtains open) as they could use some light bulb updates. Not really a huge issue unless you are applying makeup or like it on the brighter side. All our rooms had showers only, so I don’t know if any rooms have tubs. We did notice that unless you showered really early in the morning or in the evening that you would not have hot water, but rather fairly warm water. We experienced low water pressure in 2 instances where the water barely trickled out, so I don’t know what that is all about. Our Master Suite room had an amazingly huge balcony and an amazing view; however, it was solid waist high wall (vs railing like the other 2 rooms) so you could not view the marina in our loungers like you could on the other 2 rooms with railings. Our room was on the very end of the resort which provided very nice views; however, it was right above a bar that played extremely loud music until 1:30 in the morning most nights. The patio door off our bedroom did not stay locked as you must push it up to lock it, but a little jiggle of the door unlocked it (see video).
Since we went with the all-inclusive, we ate a lot of food there, and never had any bad food. The portion sizes are very big, and we shared a dish between couples several times. The people making the omelets/french toast/pancakes are simply amazing. How they cooked as good and quickly and kept everything straight is beyond me. The hosts/servers were always very friendly and extremely attentive. The guys working the pool bar were great and were always on top of making sure we had what we needed. Eduardo was so helpful with any questions or anything we needed.
I do want to add that if you are looking at doing work and need internet on vacation, I would look somewhere else as there were a couple of times that I needed to assist at work and the internet killed me. This day and age they need to spend some money on this as more and more people are working remotely and NEED to have good internet.
I see that some reviews have been hard on the employees not knowing better English. Hello? You are the visitor in THEIR country. I think they speak pretty good English all things considered and feel bad that I don’t know Spanish. For those people who think that they should speak better Spanish I wonder how well they would do if someone from Mexico was visiting the US and came up to them and had questions for them. How well would they know Spanish to help them with their questions? I understand that this is a tourist area, but I think the people down there do pretty good with their English. Remember, it was your choice to visit their country and you expect them to know your language?
This is not a 5-star resort, and I don’t think they try and say they are. This is a great place with the best location that is very reasonably priced. This is now the place we will always stay...
Read moreIf you like something that much, it only means you would like to come back again for more. And, so we did. We returned to Hotel Tesoro!
My partner and I had been at Hotel Tesoro a couple years ago, right around the time when travelers were still skeptical about traveling to Mexico (or wherever around the country), but it didn’t stop us. We took advantage of flight deals to Mexico each month. So, we chose Hotel Tesoro in Cabo and why not. We liked it then and we liked it even better in February. Our long time friends had joined us in Cabo and had the best birthday Cabo 3-day trip ever.
We arrived at Hotel Tesoro around 7pm, mid week. We were welcomed by desk staff and got checked in no time. The lobby was open setting, very spacious, nice decor, over all, a pleasant atmosphere. I liked that there was a little mini market at the lobby area. I did not recall seeing it before.
Our rooms were nothing to brag about (basic, no balcony, nothing fancy), a little out dated but it was okay for us because we rarely stayed indoor. We were out and about throughout the day and didn’t come home until midnight or so.
We had some pool and jacuzzi time. It was perfect for the several hours we spent hanging outside, taking in some not-so-heated sun and simply enjoying the view of the marina…sea of Cortez. It was definitely good day for roof top lounging.
The Vista Roof restaurant offered complimentary full breakfast buffet. It was exceptional. A nice variety of fresh and delicious foods. The servers, on the other hand, were not so exceptional. What we’ve experienced and have compared to other all-inclusive full buffet restaurants, the servers at Vista Roof do not have that friendly welcoming attitude. I thought that maybe at least one of them would be a stand out. But no. They have however, approached us only when it was time to sign our name and room number on the check. Nothing more.
On that same note, the pool servers weren’t exceptional either. From what I recall, there were about 2-3 male servers huddling around the pool bar area. It did not appear that any of servers were concerned or paid any attention to guests in/around the pool unless they were summoned by one of us. They were friendly but not at all attentive. Not sure if that’s how pool servers conduct business but from my experience at other resorts, pool servers should always be “working the room” …there will always be someone at the pool or lounge chairs in need of something. It was annoying having to flag down a server(s) from afar.
House keepers were all friendly and polite and would ask if there was anything we needed. Unfortunately, opposite that of the roof top servers at the pool and restaurant.
Special shout out to Jose the lobby bartender. Friendly, caring, attentive and fun. He should train roof top restaurant and pool servers on how to become exceptional customer service staff.
We liked the Light House restaurant the last time we visited. However, preferred the full buffet at Vista Roof for our breakfast needs instead. By the way, the omelette station staff were exceptional.
Despite the unexceptional staff members at Hotel Tesoro, I still feel it deserves an overall 5 star. It’s walking distance to the marina, the restaurants, bars, stores, pharmacies, activities, etc. All nearby. We didn’t need a rental car during our stay in Cabo but only to get to and from the airport.
We will definitely return to Hotel Tesoro. Hopefully by then, the unexceptional staff have already been trained in becoming...
